Brown currently has 14 medals (7 league, 3 Scot Cup, 4 League Cup) ...... I think Bobby Lennox has the most with 25 ( 11 League, 8 Scot Cup, 5 League Cup, and of course 1 European Cup)

Well in Broony, even less of a reason to pretend I have a little more than a passing interest in the joke that is the Scottish national team. * them!

The day I see the SFA getting a clear out and a bit of innovation in our game, then maybe, just maybe, I might take notice of them again.

He is so important for us and for him to get some much needed rest on International breaks is only going to benefit us no end.

Ever since all the corrupt SFA * about the huns, I have withdrawn my support for them. The only result I hope for is that any Celtic player representing them, and I would never disagree with any of our players who want to represent their county, comes back injury free.

BRENDAN Rodgers said that Scott Brown’s retirement from international football will be a big loss for the Scotland national team, but he believes that the Celtic captain’s decision will ultimately benefit the Scottish champions.

The Celtic midfielder officially announced his retirement from international football today (Monday) after winning 55 caps for Scotland. Brown made his international debut five months before he signed for Celtic in the summer of 2007 and he played his last game in a 2-0 win over Malta in September last year, having been captain of his country since February 2013.

The 32-year-old cited the increasingly demanding football calendar and his attempts to look after his body and the interests of his family as the reasons behind his decisions to step down.

Brendan Rodgers said the announcement was a sensible decision in light of Brown’s desire to continue playing football at the highest level with Celtic, and the Celtic manager added that he would be a missed in the national team.

“Scott’s been a wonderful player for Scotland and a real inspirational captain,” said the Celtic manager. “It’s great news for Celtic and obviously sad for the Scottish team.

“For him and his career going forward and for his own fitness he wants to prolong his career at club level, and with the number of games we have here, taking away international football is a real sensible decision.

“I spoke with him but it was purely his decision. He had time to think over it and the last time when he stopped he had a genuine intention to stop playing internationally then, but, of course, his loyalty to Gordon Strachan and trying to help the team who were struggling with injuries at that time saw him come back.

“Now, given time and the failure in qualification, it’s given him time to reflect and look at where his career goes in these final years. It’s great news for Celtic because we have someone who is fresh after international breaks and we’ll benefit from that.”

In addition to discussing Brown’s decision to retire from international football, the manager also touched on his qualities as a player and proclaimed that he could have performed at the highest level in the Premier League.

“I never realised how good a player he was until I worked with him,” said the manager. “I always saw him from the outside and thought he was a good player but if the measure is the Premier League, then, of course, he could have gone on to play at the very top end of that.

“It’s only really when you come in that you see the value of him. He’s really concentrated and focused and a really big-game player. He’s a totally different person to how he is as a player as well. He makes big contributions and off the field and he’s a really selfless person. He’s a very genuine guy who cares for people.

“He has devoted his life to his career. He eats, sleeps and breathes football, that’s Scott Brown. You see some modern players who don’t. They’ll just pull on the jersey and call themselves footballers. He’s isn’t that. He’s a brilliant captain and a brilliant player and it’s been a real joy to work with him.”

The Celtic manager also suggested that Kieran Tierney would be an ideal captain for Scotland if Alex McLeish decided to hand the Hoops full-back the armband.

“He’s certainly a player for the future,” said Brendan Rodgers. “It wouldn’t phase him. He’s learned from Broony in his time in the first-team with over 100 games. You can see that nothing phases him either. Whether it’s international football, he’s the same and he’s someone who would be a credible successor to Broony if that’s what Alex chooses.”

10 years ago, when I was in the tartan army, I would’ve been devastated. But * that, sick of our players burning themselves out playing for that bunch of corrupt *!
