BR: "We have to be realistic as always. There are some great teams in the #UEL and of course the nature of the competition it’s going to be very difficult for us."

BR: "We are going to get tested to the limits as to where we are at. For us it’s an exciting challenge."

BR: "We’ve always embraced every challenge and we’ve got our reward by getting here now and hopefully over the two games we can perform well and get a result."

BR: "We are realists and know where we stand. But we want to be competitive. Celtic is a great club, a huge club. The support really helps us in these games. We always respect it’s a difficult challenge but we aim to be as competitive as we can be

BR: "@fczenit_en are a very big club in Russia with a lot of financial power behind them. They have an outstanding manager with a host of really good players. They're a real threat so we know we have a big challenge on our hands over the two games.

BR: "We’ve had tough games in Europe over these last couple of seasons and we wouldn't have swapped them with anything. We aim now to have a really good go playing against a top class team and let’s see if we can get a good result."

ZENIT St Petersburg’s arrival at Paradise this week will not be the first time Brendan Rodgers has come up against Roberto Mancini. The Celtic manager came close to working with the Italian at Manchester City back in 2010 before being offered the manager’s job at Swansea City.

Thereafter, the two came up against each other in the English top flight and over their four encounters in the English Premier League, both have claimed one victory each and shared two draws.

Brendan Rodgers speaks highly of his Italian counterpart and says he is looking forward to seeing Mancini for the first time in years.

“Roberto is a very, very good coach and worked with some top players at Manchester City to win the Premier League,” the manager told the Celtic View said. “It’s been a number of years since we last spoke to each other so it will be nice to see him again.

“I see a difference in how they’re playing with Zenit, a 4-3-3, but his teams always have good organisation and good tactical aspects in their game. He’s an excellent coach and a very experienced coach at that.”

This time round Mancini will meet Brendan Rodgers on a different stage, and the Celtic manager hopes that the Paradise crowd will once again play its part in shaping a magical night.

“We hope that Zenit will be taken back a bit by the noise the Celtic supporters will make,” he said. “They’re going to be playing in one of the best atmospheres in world football.

“The Celtic supporters always bring out the best in these types of games. I think it’ll an atmosphere that a lot of them won’t have witnessed before. Hopefully with ourselves on the field we can come together to make a really special night.”

That’s one of the few criticisms that I would make of Rodgers: he seems to forget that we are capable of monumental upsets at Celtic Park.

I honestly think it sends out the wrong message to his players... it was the same in the CL press conferences. Realistic and we know where we are as a club etc.. already we've had Sinclair and KT praising how good Zenit are..

I feel this is putting the players in the wrong frame of mind. I've noticed he has said it a lot and no matter how true it is, defo sends the wrong message.
