McGeady - Spurs?

Discussion in 'Transfer Rumours' started by wanmadtim, May 9, 2008.

  1. Tottenham aim to beat Newcastle United for Celtic wing dazzler Aiden McGeady.

The Mirror says Spurs boss Juande Ramos is ready to step up his interest in the versatile £8million winger - who can play on either flank - after learning that Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan wants him.

Ramos has already beaten Keegan to the signing of £15.8m playmaker Luca Modric, even though Newcastle had offered the Croatia star better terms.

  2. It would take a ridiculous amount of money for Celtic to sell him this summer. One more season for us then he'll be sold. And for more than 8 million.

  3. celtic have got to make a statement on this ,we all know its rumours ,but if they said something like hes going nowere or if he is ,its going to be not for the 8million as quoted ,and who the * gave him that price

  4. exactly the quote mate but john reid said it i believe

  5. we are in are best fincial shape in a long time, trying to even better in europe, we would need a lot mroe then 8mil to get him.
Also i doubt he would want to go to england at this stage of his career and continue playing well for us until 1 of the bigger clubs come for him

i hardly think £8m is an insult. thats alot of money, i think alot of you are overating McGeady if you think hes worth alot more than that.

you can't compare what Spurs paid for Bent and Lennon. its a totally different market in England and for English players your looking at outrageous prices.

those saying 'he is not for sale,' every player has their price.

i would hope McGeady has higher sights than Spurs though. not specifically in England, but maybe La Liga at Atletico Madrid as Maxi Rodriguez successor. but he shouldn't leave now as his career may take the route of Liam Miller, going too early without thinking it through. he should stay for at least 2 seasons imo. if he carries this seasons form onto his next, his value should sky rocket.

  7. if mutton and gordon are worth £9 million then £8 for mc geady is an insult imo

  8. 8 million for mcgeady thats taking the * surely if mcgeady was to leave a think it would be to a bigger club than spurs.

its a million pounds off. i would expect Celtic to reject £8m but i do not think its an insult.

i can see what your saying because of Gordon and Hutton prices.

  10. I think we could get 12-15 million for him. You would have to think about that. I still think his football brain is not great. Personally I would sell for that, buy back Maloney as a replacement which we could probably do for 3 million. That would be amazing buisiness because there is really nothing between them in standard (im talking end product), one has just gone to the wrong club/manager. Same would have happened to Aidan if he had gone to Villa. That would leave 10 million or so to buy another couple of top players. Add that to any transfer money we were getting anyway and you could see a handful of quality players coming in. On the other hand if we are offered 12 million for Artur and 12 million for Aidan what do we do. lol A big loss but we could buy most of a brand new team.

why do you say that? think MON is building an exciting young team there, shaun mightn't be the first name on the team sheet but he's done quite well this season imo

imo if we kept Maloney, he would of become a better player than McGeady. i would sell McGeady for £9m-£12m and buy back Maloney for £3m in a heart beat.

losing Boruc and Mcgeady if we were offered £12m each for them would not be that bad. we could cope. i would be happy for both to go for that price. £24m added to the kitty is massive. £5m for a new keeper and £19m for a new attacking midfielder.

  12. i agree about taking wee shaun back for £3million but dont think either of us will live to see the day when celtic spend £19 million on one player

lol very true. but that would be our budget if we sell McGeady and Boruc. you could buy a couple of real quality players with that. probably half of WGS shopping list.

  14. aiden wont be leaving but i've thought all season that artur will. if artur does go we could still be looking at around £20 million to spend this summer, enough to buy 5 quality players. a new GK, CB, LB, CM, ST plus a bosman or 2, that japanese guy matsui or ivan klasnic for example

  15. I agree with you that Maloney would be an excellent signing but don't kid yourself that if we sell Boruc and McGeady (Hypothetically) for £25 million then our budget would change. It will not. We would still see something in the range of £4 to 8 million being spent by us this summer.

If the worst happened and we lost the pair of them for that figure then I could see us signing an EPL GK for free (Jasskelinin, Schwarzer) who in fairness would be solid enough for a sustained 4 trophy chasing season, and I'd imagine 3 or so million on a winger to replace Mcgeady.

Priorities = CB, LB and possibly a cheap midfielder to give Scott Brown a kick up the * / challenge Hartley (whos legs I can see going) and Robson for first team place.

  16. English clubs always assume that we will roll over to their shabby offers for our players. That * harry redknapp is the worst for it, keegan tried to reassure the toon fans when they were getting pumped every week by saying he was goanny sign McDonald and McGeady, now ramos is offereing what he knows is a joke of a bid for the best player in Scotland. As far as am concerned they can all get to *, if it was down to me i'd knock back £30 mil for McGeady from any english club as a matter of principle.

  17. irreplaceable, has to stay.

Possibly the most naturally talented Celtic player ive seen, bags of heart and commitment and has carried the team on his back for long spells this year.

    Not for sale

  18. keep him4 another 2 seosons and sell him 4 16 mill

i don't think McGeady will leave either, i'm just speaking hypothetically. but Boruc i think is off. have thought it since the start of this season. spending £20m on players in the summer, if Boruc goes, on centre back, left back, midfielder and striker (excluding Samaras) would be fantastic.
