    Influential in what sense?

On the park: our defence is as poor as it's been in a good while and he's been an ever-present in a list of *-poor performances.

Off-the-park: £15k per week for a guy to simply keep the spirit of the squad up isn't value for money. We already have Rodgers, Davies, Kennedy, Toure, Maloney, Brown etc. to do that.

I'm not denying he has been an excellent servant to the club but the marked drop in performance levels isn't down to loss of form for me, it's being going on too long for that. It's great he loves and has passion for the club and he will always be part of the Celtic family but that's not an argument to keep him as a player, there's 50k+ in the stands who love the club but that doesn't mean they should be wearing a jersey on a Saturday or get paid handsomely to keep squad morale up.

Guys like him are vital to any football team mate, he’s Browns second in command in regards to captaincy. Brendan and the back room staffs job isn’t to keep people happy, it’s to coach them how to play the game the way they want them to. Broony needs someone else in there to help keep the squad ticking over.

As I’ve said, his performances have been mince but if you can’t see how influential the guy is then there’s no point going round in circles debating this.

I really hope people don't start to turn on Lustig now. Terrible if they do as he's been a top servant for us and he genuinely loves the club.

Just bear that in mind. We aren't huns and better than that

Historically I could see perhaps his influence but this isn't like a Tom Boyd situation were the guy is in his twilight years and is serving the club as an ambassador. Lustig is 31.

If we estimate that Gamboa & Lustig are both on £15p/wk - and Rodgers for whatever reason wants Gamboa out - would it not make sense to move both out and use the £30k per week saved to go for a better quality RB that can potentially help take us to a new level in Europe? Rather than punt Gamboa and have a smaller wage budget to attract our new RB because it would be nice to keep Lustig as a dressing room influencer. To me, it's a no brainer. If we're serious that we want to start making an impact on the Champions League/Europa then decisions to be made to maximise our clout with the little finances we have in comparison to our competition.

Cannae run worth a *. Looks like he has arthritis. New RB needed and use him as a backup.

I'm sure the rest of the squad could cope without lustig. I doubt he would be happy sitting on the bench every week aswell if we brought someone new in, need rid.

So I call a spade a spade and it's hun like behaviour, makes sense. Certainly not celebrating Lustig being crap especially when he shites it against PSG away (many seem to forget) is that the leadership he brings?! and then plays 4 days later in the cup final. But exciting times ahead that there is a possibility we can have a RB that can go forward and not look like he's playing on marbles. Just rubbing it into the * oan here 3-4 months ago giving me * for it :boxing:

Ps Would rather have Lustig at 70 on a zimmer frame than have that * Flanagan up here

Love the guy, hate the player.

That’s how I’d sum it up.

It's not Lustig's fault to be fair to him, have no clue why Brendan keeps picking him. That performance v the huns was one of the worst I have seen a celtic player play since Du Wei. If that was Boyata or Simunovic you bet your * they would've been hooked at half time yet instead was rewarded by keeping his place! RB is a position in which we have 3 options in, yet is our main weakness. On a positive note Griffiths is back!

    What sanctimonious * is this?

Nobody is turning on the guy. We just expect better. It’s embarrassing that’s he’s getting roasted on a weekly basis by poor Scottish teams.

Taking as much glee in his demise is not the behaviour of a Celtic supporter, could be you're just a complete fuckstick tho!

But you crack on with your inaccurate and churlish comparisons. :50:

Think people are being too sentimental. Near enough every Celtic fan wanted rid of James Forrest a couple of seasons ago and he's been here his whole career, as well as having age on his side to improve and fulfill potential. Lustig was bought while in his prime, he was only ever going to decline and now his form and physicality are dropping at an alarming rate. He needs dropped and moved on or let his contract roll out, regardless of how much he loves the club or influences the players we need better in his position.

He's not doing the business on the pitch and should be dropped. I get that he is a big influence in the dressing room but that doesn't mean he has to start every week. We should punt Gamboa as he's clearly not in BRs plans and bring a RB in. Lustig could then cover RB and CB well.

I don't actually think he's been that bad.
Whole team is a bit under par. He's not an exception.

    And he's still * sexy.

    End of an era.

Love the big man and hope he realises how fondly he is though of by many fans. Still has a massive role to play in the squad.

    Just the way it goes.

Was hoping it might have been just a run of poor form but fearing now that he has actually declined.

This season has probably been his worst in a Celtic shirt.
