I wouldn’t do it the injustice of saying it’s as bad as Carling (which is an abomination). It’s just a bog-standard lager. Good if you’ve finished work and want a cold pint, but lacks any real flavour.

Comparing it to Carling should be a perm ban

It’s average at best in my opinion. I like to try different types of beers when I’m out and about, and Tennents is mediocre in comparison to other beers. Most German beers in general are head and shoulders above anything we produce over here.

I feel that Tennents is only seen as good, simply because it’s Scottish and patriotism dictates this over taste. The only place I’ve been in comparison to this is Yorkshire. Where everything there almost as a rule has to be produced in Yorkshire, and how automatically, the people over there deem it superior on that reason.

I recall going into a pie and mash shop in Skipton once, and the only tea they served was Yorkshire Tea, when I said I wasn’t a fan of it, it seemed like everyone in the place stared at me like I’d just kicked a puppy.

Worst thing is, most of those * were probably drinking coffee or a can of Coke instead!

Cliquey bunch those Yorkshire folk! :56:

I know exactly what you mean about Yorkshire folk with their ‘*’s own country’ carry on.

Tennents isn’t great. The annoying thing is that Scotland has hundreds of excellent local beers/ales and some great breweries. Williams, Stewart, Brewdog etc. all produce excellent ales. For some reason people insist on drinking tasteless lager over good local beers.

Exactly, the * are like the North Korea of England. If they could man their borders, have nuclear weapons and instate Jeremy Clarkson as their leader the daft * probably would!

Thing is, these tasteless beers sell though as no one particularly hates them, that regularly drink beer. The fact they’re tasteless means they’re popular unfortunately. I wouldn’t mind going up to Scotland and seeing some of the microbreweries on offer up there though!

Isn’t there an Official TC Ultimate Lager / Beer Thread or something on here?

    That would be ultra cool...

    This is true.

In my opinion, Tennent's is easily one of the worst beers I've ever tried.

Edit: Their Caledonia Best is nice though, as is Belhaven Best.

McEwan's Export is probably the best commercially available Scottish beer. Innis & Gunn is the nicest I've tasted, but it's not as widely available.
