This is Celtic we're talking about. We'll spin keeping hold of Dembele, Armstrong and Simunovic as being 'like new signings'.

What a depressing sentence to start the window.

I think we need to understand this going into this window.

It's been recorded in the annual accounts that we have £25million in reserve (page 33), post-tax profits of around £5m (page 3) and now van Dijks installments that is reported to be around £7m-£9.5m? That's a total of £38m. Now, let's not forget that £18m of that is going straight into the Hotel/Here. So, that leaves us around £20m of reserve.

Why on earth aren't we going in for proven quality with the capital we have? There's simply no excuses to be recruiting 'projects' or being reluctant to push the boat out.

Imagine, say for example, Dembele does go for they figures that is being mentioned around the media of £20m etc. That would make it a total of £40m of reserves. Armstrong also being linked to moves as well...

Our support have done more than our fair share to pump hundreds and thousands into the Club, from rising Season Tickets, Merchandise and others.

If we haven't pushed out the boat enough by February 1st then im sorry its unacceptable.

I did mention that im willing to give the Club time until the window is shut…

You could be right, but knowing us, how we operate for the Board primarily, it wont surprise me one bit if we don’t spend the money we have got.

We really need to spend a fair bit on this side to improve further for Europe. New GK, CB, RB and a couple of midfielders are required. Wouldn’t expect us to address all those positions in January but 1 or 2 would be nice, however we know what this board are like.

So with that in mind I can’t wait to see which bang average EPL player we bring in on loan til the end of the season.

If we dont spend then coming on here venting anger is a way of release for some!

I do think the failure to buy a CB in the summer was a massive failure by all at celtic, considering the Coetzee deal collapsed on the saturday morning and the window closed the following Thursday then i feel that the anger shown and the subsquent failure of Erik and Jozo to stay fit justifed the frustration of the support.

Now we have signed a CB in Compper, that looks like a direct replacement for Erik so its 1 for 1.

We might have an interest from various parties in Jozo this month, time will tell but if the quoted figures are accurate and we can get £8m then deal not that i dont like the guy or think he is a bad player but his injury record would make me accept the offer if i was Celtic, if we do then we are then down to 3 fit CB one of them is a 19 year old who can play from the back but lacks pace. Now the way we play you cant depend on either fullback tucking in and covering runs from fast attackers therefore we need to target a CB with a bit of pace. We need to get another CB in regardless of wether Jozo goes or not and by a CB i dont mean the guy from Dundee.

We are very light in the wide department, Forrest was on fire during the first part of the season and sinclair although not doing aswell as many hoped (which i think the goals and assists disputes the theory) then we cant depend on young Mikey to come in and play i would get him out on loan, we have Morgan coming in next season so i would be happy to take a winger on loan to the summer, paddy is out in Dubai so i imagine will be stepping up rehab and back next month.

In the no 10 position when Rogic is out we seem to rotate between, McGregor, Armstrong and Ntcham, none of them are a natural 10 for me like Rogic, so we could look to that position.

Right Back - lustig looks beat any time he comes up against pace, some of his play in December was diabolical. Gamboa looks like he isnt trusted by Brendan therefore we need to move him on if we can, Ralston is almost fit for first team action.

Left Back - Hayes could have backed up for Tierney and young Miller is there but its a position that needs addressed for next season definetly, will be difficult for any player as it would seem Kieran is a stick-on for the position but you never know, dont want an El Kadourri type back up but realistically thats what you could be looking at.

Striker - if moussa goes then a new striker is needed and those come at a premium unless you can unearth another gem like moussa.

Goalkeeper - I dont trust any of them.

As @EndThePLC has said their is a substantial amount of finance at Celtic and his figures quoted from the report dont include the figures from this year which i am sure will surpass the £90m turnover from last season! Its time for our board to build for the 10, we have the manager, some players and the fans, step up messers Lawwell, Bankier and Desmond, we as fans have backed you and the players time to splash the cash!

Just typed that slowly not furiously but come back on 1st feb and i might have steam coming off my keyboard. HH

We need a wanyama for europe. Brown cant do it all. A right back, and a CB (although weve signed one so not in a rush)

If moussa goes, a striker. Also roberts on a perm.

Calm down. Cap locks are a bit serious for this place.

Honestly though..... There's plenty of other teams out there who spend big money or outwith their means. Go support them if you want to compare the size of your *, i mean transfer spends, with other fans.

The board have it ingrained in too many fans that spending money is a bad or dangerous thing. In modern football especially, there's so much room to make profit on signings. Not everything has to be a Van Dijk "buy for 2, sell for 12". Buy for 5, sell for 7 is still a massive success. We should take more risks with larger fees imo.

Aye but a £5million player will want paid £5million player wages.
After you pay the 5 you may be paying him what.... 40k a week? That's over £2million a season in wages alone. Then the agents fee (10-20% normally). If we keep the player for 2 years that's doubled the transfer fee.
Not to mention Scott Brown has a reported 'match the highest earner' clause in his contract.
It's not just a transfer fee.

Over £2million in wages is still less than 10% of our income from Season Ticket sales alone. That's before CL income, TV, prizes, sponsorship or player sales. We can absolutely afford it, and should be spending that type of money more often.

Have you seen the figures about how much we spend just running the club? We have a turnover of less than £70million per year (without CL TV and prize money). If we have a first team with even half of them on £2million a year we are then eating into our running costs. We are then relying on prize money or CL TV money (silly as if we fail to qualify we'd be in the red) or overdrafts to pay players wages. Like ye know.... Sevco.
Player sales shouldn't be used for paying wages and almost all should be made available to the manager i agree.

Yes we may have £20million a year from season ticket sales but how do you think we heat the pitch, pay the leccy, staff and playing staff or upkeep the training facilities? If we make £10million in profit (before tax) from our TV, sponsorship and ticket sales we have done brilliantly.
Our running costs are near as damnit £60million a season now.

Do you remember a few years ago when we didn't sell any players, failed to qualify for the CL in Deila's first season? We made little to no money. We relied on the previous seasons left over money to fund transfers. It's a fine balancing act.
We are not in the grand scheme of things a rich club.

Do you not think we should add to the squad in this window then?

We are spending well within our means and it's right to be prudent, but for me it's about adding quality. Dembele, Sinclair, Compper all quality all varying price.

We need to add in the key positions GK, CB & LW, and more if we lose players in this window.

To suggest fans 'should go support another team' because they want to build from a position of a strength and want to see investment, is disrespectful mate.
