Obviously coming to a club our size was never on the cards for Hayes. He was also a fan. So when the dream came true and up to now I believe it has overwhelmed the lad. Such a consistent performer for the sheep against the same domestic competition. He doesn't suddenly become poor. I think once he has settled and knows he deserves his place then we will see the best of Johnny.
Looking forward to see his performance today. Pleased for him and well done Hayesy.:57:

Aberdeen kicked * out of him first half, then he went through shinnie and put him in his place.

BR on @jonnyhayes15: "He’s a young Irish man who knows what it means to be from Ireland and support Celtic. But to play for Celtic and get your first goal for Celtic, especially against your old club, is a really special day for him."

JH: "It was a tale of two halves today. The first half was a physical battle and in the second half we showed how good we are on the ball and at keeping possession, and we could have scored a couple more."

JH: "It was more about the three points today. I know it’s a cliche but we have that togetherness and experience in that dressing room."

JH: "Regardless of whether you are playing or not, everyone wants each other to do well and getting three points today was the most important thing coming up to Christmas."

JH: "The manager said he wanted us to send a full-house home happy before Christmas and also to establish a lead at the top.”

Haha what he's been terrible in every appearance for six months, owed Rodgers that today for bringing him to the club. Still needs to show a * of a lot more, * load of work ahead to be done.

That's bollocks. Started a couple of weeks ago at CP and played well. Done alright off the bench before as well.

I was at the 5-1 Motherwell game he started and thought he was rubbish, remember a shot he had going out for a throw-in. He needs to perform a lot better and show a lot more, today was the first sign it could come going forward though :50:

BRENDAN Rodgers heaped praise on Jonny Hayes after the Irishman scored his first goal for the Hoops in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen.

The six-in-a-row champions replicated the dominant scoreline from earlier in the season against their title rivals to move eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Hayes scored the second goal of the afternoon against his former club in what was a hugely impressive performance from the 30-year-old winger.

Speaking to the media following the game Brendan Rodgers summed up Hayes performance as “brilliant”.

“He’s just settling in to the club but the last couple of months he really taken a step forward,” said the manager. “In training he’s being that bit more direct.

"Sometimes you come into a new club, you play it a bit safe and want to be everyone’s friend, but now he’s really aggressive in his game, both with and without the ball, and he was absolutely brilliant today.

“He’s a young Irishman who knows what it means to be from Ireland and support Celtic. But to play for Celtic and get your first goal for Celtic, especially against your old club, is a really special day for him.”

Aye and I mind you were the only person on here who thought he was pish!

He's not been a world beater but he's been nowhere near terrible.

Been critical of his signing but showed why he was needed today tbh, yes he is probably a domestic level player. But our squad is what sets us apart on certain stages of the season.

Not that I'm getting at you personally, but this is why folk need to have patience.

Jonny Hayes was CLEARLY wanted by Rodgers, it may take him a bit of time to have an impact on the squad, but he's been actually ok in most games he's played/came on, but today his performance was brilliant.

Delighted to see him cap it off with a goal, and totally justified his selection today.

Shows the excellent depth we have in our entire squad.

The key for him is confidence and the belief that he is good enough to play for Celtic, the goal will do him a power of good.

I think they said on CTV that this was only his 5th start...

People have been writing him off too much too soon.
