I've been collecting these systems for years. I've got 3 Mega Drives, 3 SNES, (2 UK PAL 1 US NTSC) a NES, 2 N64 I've got the Master System converter for my Mega Drive. Have about 30 Master System games. I dunno if the Master System converter would fit the MD 2 because of its shape. These systems sold in the millions so there's plenty out there. the MD 1 I got boxed for £25 is in better nick than theone in the charity shop and that doesn't have any games. I think it would be someone like me who would buy it, someone who wants to build up a decent collection of games for it. Think I have about 28 games for mine. I have all the Micro Machines games for it, they are always great to go back to. The problem with the Mega Drive is that the pads are * and it's real difficult to find them second hand in good working condition. I have about 12 MD pads and only about 3 of them work properly. Nintendo always made great pads. All my NES and SNES pads work perfect.

Sega Saturn pads are among the worst for breakage and like hens teeth. Also N64 with Goldeneye is going for about £60. I bought a few consoles along the way for my bhoy (17). He isn't big on gaming either but they are all cased up with games etc. Was buying him loads of rare ps2 games for around a pound each, have over 100. Never touch Fifa or games that sold in millions. PS2 will make good money in about 5 years. Mainly due to the fact it was the first console that became affordable and widely available to Eastern Europeans. They were still being introduced to PS2 because of affordability, when we were having PS4 launched. So it will become a nostalgic console for a whole new generation within next 5/10 years.:50:

I'm not sure about the future value of the disc systems. I have an Atari from 1977 that still works fine, cough too hard on a PS2 and it knocks the laser out of alignment. Too many moving parts in disc systems that knacker out too easily. I've always felt that laser disc gaming has been a step backwards. It's like being in 1988 again sitting there waiting for you Amiga game to load on 3.5 inch floppy disc.

I think console gaming will cease to exist in the next 10 to 15 years time. With a cartridge based system you could increase the lifespan of the console by adding custom chips to the cartridge.Look at late on in its life games on the SNES like Donkey Kong Country and Yoshi's Island they came out when the 32bits were already for sale here and they look as good as any PS1 or Saturn game of the time. Both the Mega Drive and the SNES were supported up until 1998 which is several years after the 32bits arrived, thanks to the addition of enhanced chips in the games. That's almost 12 years games were produced for the MD.

Today a console is obsolete as soon as you get it out the box and the only way you can enhance it is by paying £400 for the newest version of the system. Today more and more people are turning to PCs for gaming. Back in the 16bit days you could only get the best games from the best software houses on the consoles. Today there's nothing you can't get on PC that the consoles have. If you can't buy it for PC you can always emulate it. In the not too distant future all gaming will be on computers because they are way easier and cheaper to upgrade than buying a whole new system every couple of years. Come in Mr Playstation your time is up.

I agree that consoles as we know are on the way out. Just a step forward like what happened with music. But while there is a generation of console players or people who remember them, there will always be a collectible market for consoles for nostalgic memories. But I agree with you about cartridge consoles. That's why in my opinion SNES and N64 were about the best consoles ever made. As long as it is looked after these consoles could survive a nuclear war.:67:

Getting weird looks while you walk down the street humming or whistling yer wee ankle biters favourite songs from her favourite TV shows.

Another one is realising half way through feeding your wee nephew that you unconciously open and close your mouth along with him even though I'm only eating fresh air. The most annoying part though is finding out the family have been watching and are * themselves laughing at you.

Had both when I was a kid , hours of fun to be had , can't recall exactly but weren't games a bit cheaper back then? They've zoomed up on price anyway , all the digital online content and expansion packs that do it.

Believe it or not. Games back then cost the same on release if not more. £50-60 mostly.

I've no interest in consoles or games, never had. Last game I played was probably Super Mario SNES.
