Seemed to be a one man crusade at times in that first half. Some players need to have a good look at themselves. It's ok hitting the highspots vs Dundee or Ross County but when chips are down in Europe we need people to step up to the mark.

Tierney also hailed captain Scott Brown, who surpassed Kenny Dalglish to become the Scotsman with the most top-tier European appearances when he featured against the Brussels side.

“He’s a club legend,” said Tierney. “It’s brilliant for me to work under him as a player and learn from him. I’m learning from the best.

“Tonight Broony dug in as he always does and he was brilliant. He’s solid for us in the middle of the park and he demands the best from us and we all work hard as a team for him.”

Been saying for a while, we need more like him.....need individuals who are leaders and battlers.

 

We need Broony to always be on his game which seems to be a demand he thrives on but even he can't get some of the others to follow his lead in a game like last night......I believe he's already a legend but perhaps we won't really appreciate him fully until he hangs up his boots.....oh, unless he becomes the manager in the future and leads us to glorious levels of achievement....Hail, Hail Broony.

I'm a huge fan of Brown but I don't see this great performance last night. Expected more from him tbh.

SCOTT Brown reckons Celtic got “a bit scared” during their 1-0 home defeat to Anderlecht and reckons the club must make Parkhead a fortress again if they are to make any headway in the Europa League. While the club showed demonstrable progress by reaching the last 32 of the continent’s second club competition with third place behind Paris St Germain and Bayern Munich in Group B, a home loss and sub-par performance to Anderlecht was a rather demoralising way to get over the line. After a match which saw him surpass Kenny Dalglish’s all-time mark of 69 appearances in the Champions League/European Cup, Brown accepted last night that their qualification was “bittersweet” and demanded better by the time the Europa League matches come around. For all the advances of the Brendan Rodgers era, the club are still waiting for their first home Champions League win.

"It’s kind of bittersweet to be perfectly honest,” the 32-year-old said. “We got what we wanted at the start of the group – the Europa League. But it’s not the performance we wanted and it’s not the way we like to dominate games, possession-based. We are a team that likes to press high up the park and out teams under pressure and they played us at our own game. We knew on Tuesday night that as long as we didn’t lose 3-0 we were okay and that was I think in the back of everyone’s heads.

"We defended quite well and were a bit unlucky with the goal while Craig has made a great save near the start," the 32-year-old added. "But it is all about the performance for us and it is not really what we wanted – I think it was like 600 passes to 200 and that is not like us, especially at home in front of our own fans. I think we got a little bit scared.

“Whoever we get next it is going to be a hard game. But especially in home games we need to try and make this a fortress again and be like it was and go back to winning at home. Because you need something at home to try and take away or vice versa to try and hold on to something. Everyone is a little disappointed with the result today but there is another European night to come at Celtic Park and away from home too. The break will be fantastic for us to go away and have two weeks off and recharge the batteries.”

 

McGinn is currently what Brown was back in the day for Hibs.

Not to say that McGinn will ever be a future Celtic captain or anywhere near as decorated as Brown's career has been, of course.

What's been your favourite game this season and why?

Winning 5-0 at home to Astana to get into the Champions League. We always knew it was going to be hard to go away from in the play-off, but when you get a five-goal cushion, it always helps. There was a really good atmosphere that night. The Green Brigade were back in and it made a huge difference to the atmosphere.

What's your most memorable trophy and why?

The Scottish Cup against Aberdeen on the last day of last season when Tom Rogic scored in the last minute to through the whole season as Invincibles. To do in that style meant so much to everyone and it was weight off our shoulders as well because it had been a long time since we had all three trophies back at Celtic Park. It was one of the reasons why I signed and I always wanted to do it and now I have been lucky enough to do it. In Ronny’s first season we had a great chance and we just missed out on it and I thought the opportunity was slipping out of our hands but we managed to do it last year in style.

What is a typical Christmas day like in the Brown house

Mental! Three kids, who will be so excited this year and everyone comes to mine for Christmas dinner and then I leave for training about five o’clock. I’ll get my starter, not make my dinner and then I’ll leave just before everyone starts drinking too much. My mum, my wife’s mum and dad, cousins and uncles all come. They all come later on in dribs and drabs so it’s good that I’m not going to be there!

Do you or Kieran Tierney ever feel the cold? You’re the only ones I ever see with just shorts and t-shirt on in training!

(Laughs) If you run about, you shouldn’t feel the cold. You always feel the cold when you go out but once you start running about you warm yourself up and I don’t like to be too hot when I’m outside training, whether it’s freezing cold or raining.
