St Petersburg was Leningrad. Though the point about surviving a 2 & 1/2yr long siege is valid, if not as critical to the outcome of WWII as the Battle of Stalingrad was.

    Class mate.

Strolls about the midfield. Still though, their overall squad isn't as strong as previous years IMO.

Pretty tough but most ties were going to be.

Their side is full of experienced European players and a good few talented South Americans.

The one significant advantage we have is that this game comes when they are about 2 months into their winter shutdown. But Zenit are not going to be easy beats. Mancini is their manager and they have been able to spend a lot more than we have, that's for sure.

Hopefully the league will be pretty much wrapped up by then and maybe it's just the unbeaten record to play for

Interesting draw, based on Celtic's unfortunate draws as of late, I obviously would've preferred to get Salzburg or Plzen, (As a Portuguese league fan I can tell you Braga is no easy draw), but nothing you can do now except concentrate on beating Zenit. They're a tough team, good players, but their winter break will be beneficial to Celtic. If Rodgers gets the defense well drilled and ready, and especially if Celtic wins at home, I think Celtic can advance. Sporting drew Astana from Kazakhstan, so, outside of the long flight to Kazakhstan, I'm happy with that draw. I'd be lying if only for a minute I didn't imagine a Sporting-Celtic draw, which would've been great! two great historic sides, green hoops everywhere, and I would've warmly greeted you all in Lisbon!

Stalingrad is now Volgograd , they renamed it after Stalin died. Leningrad was st Petersburg during the communist period.

St Petersburg was St Petersburg in Tsarist Russia, and then became Leningrad after the Communists took over. It has reverted back to St Petersburg. Its the one on the Baltic Sea, pretty much where the Tsars all ruled Russia from, even though Moscow is the capital. The Germans laid siege to there for years, and in the end although they never took it, it was just worked around by the Soviets as they marched west.

Stalingrad is Volgagrad (I think?), on the bank of the river Volga, down to the south. That was where the the German 6th Army got sucked into *, and because of stubborn pride by both Stalin and Hitler, what it represented and it's location as a gateway to the Caucasus, and rhe oil fields there, which is what the Germans were really after in the south. That was their goal, but got sucked into and then were trapped in Stalingrad. About a million Germans and their allies went into Stalingrad. Only about 5,000 survived the war and got home again.

HAppy with that, there’s no easy draws in the knockout stages of Europe and we got a decent test.

Winter break for them might work for us, just hope we at least get a center half in because if we’re going into this with the likes of Nir Bitton at centre half were *
