The bar was low because he made his frist foray in the CL on his first attempt against some huge teams, Second foray into the CL has been an improvement results wise against our main competitor for third place which we pretty much coasted through after our good showing in Belgium.

Someone made a great point earlier, if the results were reversed and we lost 1-0 in Belgium then beat them 3-0 in Glasgow the mood on here would be very different..

That fact that achieved the results the other way around is what seems to be getting peoples backs up.

The end result is the same. The 4th pot team has progressed to the EL at the expense of the pot 3 team and last seasons EL QF's.

No they shouldn't. Last night was probably the worst performance I've seen from a Celtic side in the CL at home... probably ever when you exclude the very big teams we've lost to.

However, I'm hoping that that was mainly down to the situation going into the game. We were defending a lead and like nearly all occasions when we're defending a lead, we seem to play quite * in the next game.

You want to know what he has achieved in the CL> Qualifying two years on the trot and and progressing from 4th and out in his first season and has progressed beyond Christmas his second season. For me that is the only relvant stat in all of this.

I was quietly confident before last night that we’d do well in the Europa (* knows why). But now I can just see us getting horsed by European teams that play better and smarter.

Before the game I was very relaxed. Thought we'd probably win the game 2-0, and that even if we conceded it'd be a consolation goal and that the whole game would be relatively comfortable. Was pretty depressed at FT tbh.

Even though it would have made no difference to the standings, I really wanted six points. That would have given me great hope going into next season's CL and even into the Europa in 2018.

I'd say qualifying for the CL two seasons in a row is good start, especially last year before he could really stamp his authority on the club.. quite an achievement.

I'm not interested in his record with Liverpool, only Celtic..

We've finished 3rd this season that's the best we could have hoped for. He knows more than anyone what's required last nights first half performance was addressed well at HT..

I'm fully behind BR in what he's trying to achieve and when we start making an impact playing fast one touch possession football, I'm sure we won't see a few * on here at all!

Teams on the continent just always seem to ping the ball about quicker than us. They play nice 1 touch, 2 touch football...whereas we usually need 4 or 5 and end up slowing the game right down.

Or simply passing it sideways and back just to cling onto possession.

Imagine the backlash if Hendry and Morgan are our only signings. Seem to be our main targets if they were the only two players at the game yesterday. Worrying.

There is no doubt we got caught in that trap last night as have many teams before us and I am sure plenty after us. But just because I question last night doesn't mean I think we should have played gung ho. I never want us to play gung ho unless we are smashing the huns at the piggery. I just think last night in particular the Anderlecht manager had the measure of Brendan. He pushed high and we couldn't really get playing out from the back. We went long but their centre halfs wanted that. He doubled up on the wingers anytime they got the ball and we looked bereft of ideas. Im looking forward to the Europa League it is more our standard. But BR was pretty poor with Liverpool in Europe to. Its a concern. Lets see what the Europa brings.

Yeah I think our passing is really predictable at times as well teams like Anderlecht and Gladbach last year have seemed a lot more creative when they've played against us at home.

They also look so much more comfortable on the ball, to a man. Far more technical. Even the average European sides.

People need to remember when we beat Anderlecht 3 - 0 they were in turmoil. If we had to play Anderlecht now over 2 legs they would beat us. This is NOT progress. Rodgers knows this as well. We need 4 quality signings in and move some current players on.

What a long way we've come in 30 years when Qualifying for European football can muster a hysterical, hyperbolic reaction.

You then remember you now have adults on here who only know from MON onwards and have been utterly spoiled by success.

A 3-0 win away from home in the CL is an incredible resullt regardless of how the team is playing.

Never understand why people downplay that result.

some folk are just never happy, everything is glass half empty.

This is so true. Every time we come up against a continental team they are far better technically and are zipping the ball around at 100 miles an hour making our players look stupid at times. The Anderlecht captain and about 3 of their attackers put our forwards to shame with their close control.

100% agree with you mate, said that a few times on here those fortunate enough to be born 1995 onwards only know success. Doesn't make them any less of fans but when you consider 4th place finishes in SPFL and no euro football then its a big change to today.

That's fair enough but his record in the Champions League with us garbage as well, we've had 4 good performances in 12 games including the city game away where we played their reserves. Some of the excuses now are getting old, I even heard him mention after the game the excuse of money again, Anderlecht only spent 13m in the last transfer window no one can tell me we can't compete with that. Even more the fact that two of their signings worth 6m between them weren't even playing (Teodorczyk, Josue Sa). So if anything our squad value was more than what they had out, not sure why he was looking at the value of their team in the first place, maybe for an excuse ? Again I think it's great that he is the manager but needs to take some responsibility of that * that happened last night. One thing I know is Rodgers doesn't take to kindly to * players, got rid of Ambrose two games games in so hopefully more * to be punted so we can bring some experienced CL defenders.
