I am very glad to have European football after Christmas so Rodgers deserves credit for that. I mentioned after the Bayern game at home that Brendan cant be happy and it needs to improve with the home form but I was slaughtered on here for it. But I stand by it, Gladbach and Anderlecht were very poor results at home. The others well they can happen but PSG was hard to take. I don't see much improvement in Europe this season(so far). An excellent result away to Anderlecht salvaged the campaign, there is absolutely no doubt though that we are being found out at the top table. We are a Europa League team- to be fair lets see how we go in the last 32 in Febuary.

Rodgers needs to take a lot of the blame here. Only managers who I've been this unconfident with in europe is Deila and Mowbray, even then I've never went in to a game against a team of Anderlecht's quality at home expecting to lose. We played exactly as I expected us and it's not good enough.

Cannot believe Brendan's ability to be a CL manager are being questioned :56:
He'd win the thing with Barca, Madrid or PSG's squads.
He wants to play attacking football and I've got to admire him taking on that challenge at his beloved Celtic because he knows the risks it could have on his career.
What I find ironic is when he broke the domestic record in his first season with a team on its knees when he arrived, pundits say it means nothing because we have the biggest budget in Scotland but when Barca and PSG pump us it's his fault for being a bad manager and mentioning their budgets is a poor excuse :39:
Btw I love Lenny and Sutton but this damned if you do damned if you don't approach to Brendan is out of order.

I said in Europe, europa league or champions league. In fairness he's done far better than the other 2 but still I go in to games in Europe expecting to lose now and more often than not that's what happens.

We're too easy to play through and we normally play to the other team's strengths. We need a Wanyama type in the middle who is essentially a brick wall but can play as well, and a kolo toure type in defence who is experienced at a high level because it's the blind leading the blind at the back as far as I am concerned. Not one of them is champions league quality (so far in Tierney's case) and none of them ever have been.

See my other post. Did you often go in to a CL game under O'Neill, Strachan or Lennon, especially at home, expecting a defeat?

He's done fantastically well domestically, probably the best start for any manager in our history in that regard.

But it's not the games against Barca and PSG that are the issue. Yes, we were pretty awful in all the games against them but that is excusable. It's getting swept aside at home by Monchengladbach and Anderlecht which is the issue and why he is being questioned.

I'm very optimistic whenever we play. Just before kick off I 'expected' and thought we'd pump Psg away. Scored straight away and went "telt you they wouldn't pump us silly da" :56:

So basically I'm no the best person to answer that question but I don't feel unconfident in Rodgers. The last 2 qualifying campaigns are probably the most confident and at ease (even if it was touch and go for a second in Astana and the most brutal 90 minute's ever in Israel) I've ever been because of that man barring the Helsingborg, Helsinki year that was pretty much a doddle..

This group has been a disappointment overall but we've qualified. It's all about progression from here now. A decent run if possible in the Europa. Couple of key additions in January and possibly summer. Qualifying again and hoping to * we can get a half decent group for once..

Overall, it is progress if you look at it discounting some of the performances. Facts are that we have gone further than last year so can't complain in that regard.

Fingers crossed for the group for next year provided we even make it, 4 qualifying rounds is ridiculous and it would be easy to slip up. Hopefully you're right regarding signings, but IMO we need to sign a couple of experienced players if we are going to make any impact in the Europa league.

So he needs to take a lot of the blame for progressing in Europe and being invincible domestically!?

Definitely. It doesn't feel like it straight after last night's disappointment and some of our displays in this group but if you said we'd qualify for the champion's league and get Europa football after Christmas you'd snap the hand off it..

It will get harder. No doubt about it...especially when we've to qualify unseeded which I think may start next season..

We'll sign some quality in January. No doubt about it for me..

The fact we've got Europa will strengthen Brendan's hand as well to get even more quality in for me. Already admitted a centre back will be one. Also our best window to do business for the champion's league qualifiers..

In fairness the bar for progress was low. All he needed to do was not finish bottom. Performance wise we are similar to last season if not a bit below it

Who is it you expect at Celtic Park?

Not a CL manager... * me sideways.

People have a really high opinion of our current standing in world football.

See, Gladbach was disappointing for me but you need to remember we were defending a 3 goal lead last night. Do you really want us to go out gung ho and end up getting picked off at will?

It was a really tricky situation for Brendan and the team, whether to stick or twist.

wat I will say is that in the last 8 minutes were were actively trying to get an equaliser at least. No running it into the corner to waste time, just a desire to not lose that game.

Well he's not is he?! what has achieved in the Champions League apart from 2 wins out of 18 ? would be good to know. It's a blessing that Rodgers is here, doesn't mean he shouldn't face deserved criticism. A * poor Anderlecht side sitting 3rd in the Belgium league should not be coming to Celtic Park and beating us, sorry for having such a high exception:56:

Beautiful Sunday - the IRA version
Read a stat recently which showed that over the past four seasons, of all the teams that have qualified for the group stages via the Champions' route, (i.e teams like us) none has finished higher than third. And even then, finishing third was considerably more unlikely than finishing fourth.

That just shows where we're at. Tbh, I don't fancy us to do much in the Europa either.
