Only the older episodes so this doesn’t really bother me tbh, as ridiculous as it is.

Im annoyed with it tbh. Theres a pretty common view built on it now that the * made it is only doing it to further his career and its working in this offended * world that we live in. He couldnt give a *. Hes a comedian ffs. In fairness i havent watched whatever exactly hes offended about but im just reading about it in a couple of simpsons groups im in.

The shows full of stereotypes its what part of what made it great.

Was sad to read what hank azaria had to say on it seems like theyve pretty much made up their mind on an alteration atleast

Probably about 99% of local shops in Glasgow. It's not like the show doesn't represent him as a valued and much loved member of the community.

Episode where Apu loses his job and they have to go all the way to India to speak to the Kwik-e-mart guru to ask for it back but Homer blows their three questions is ace.

But the creator of the documentary says he loves the show, and Apu as a character.

Just saying from his experience watching as a kid he knew the jokes about Apu, from accent to inaccurate representation of arranged marriage etc, was even at an early age apparent to him that the joke was ON him, his type were being ridiculed and it would take him out of the moment. Americans didn't assume all police were like Wiggum or all Italians were like Fat Tony, but all Indian stereotypes were Apu.

Americans might not think that about their police force or Italian immigrants but I bet it's a common misconception in a lot of other countries, including India.

That's the whole point of the show , every character is a stereotype. The fact that the writers are even considering bowing to this pressure is extremely worrying and sets a dangerous precedent.

I hope if they do write Apu out of the show they do it with as much satire as they can muster, which granted isn't much these days.

Mind you I bet the creators of the Simpsons are secretly loving this. Simpsons hasn't been this relevant in a decade.

The immediate response from so many people when this story broke (without watching the doc) was "well I don't have a problem with it or find it racist, so it isn't!!", which is ridiculous.

It's the sort of person who finds it so easy to accuse others of being easily offended, but responds with incredulous outrage when a guy questions a cartoon stereotype. Completely unaware of how ironic that is.

It really doesn't matter what they do now anyway, 99% of the shows fanbase ignores everything from about Season 12 onwards. In later seasons there's been numerous departures from people's original character traits and nobody cares anymore because the show is long dead anyway.

The episode where Skinner turns out to be Armin Tamzarian (Principal & The Pauper) is nearly a Han Shot First level controversy, you're right that people wouldn't give a * about anything going on with the show these days.

The beginning of the end that episode. It was still good for a few seasons after that but the quality started to decline from that season onwards.
