WHEN Kieran Tierney came on as a substitute against Dundee at Dens Park with nine minutes to go back in April 2015, he fulfilled an ambition he’d harboured ever since he’d first kicked a football. He had now played for Celtic, the team he had always supported.

Fast-forward two-and-a-half years and Tierney, at the age of 20, passed another milestone, making his 100th appearance for the Hoops in the 1-0 victory over Ross County in Dingwall.

It’s an extraordinary achievement for a player who has won the domestic treble as part of Brendan Rodgers’ Invincibles, captained Celtic twice this season, signed a new six-year contract, skippered Scotland for the first time just two weeks ago … and has two songs sung in his honour by the Celtic supporters.

Yet, even as he savoured becoming a century Bhoy, Tierney’s humility still shone through when he spoke to the official Celtic website after the game.

“I’ve not had too much time to think about it,” he admitted. “It’s just been game after game after game, but I’m delighted and so are my family.

“I try my best and work hard every day in training and if the manager thinks I’m good enough to play on a Saturday or Wednesday then hopefully I can do my best. One hundred games for Celtic is just unbelievable. I’m just glad we got the win and kept a clean sheet.”

As well as being the subject of two songs, Tierney is also the choirmaster within the Celtic dressing-room, letting his team-mates know every time a new song emerges from within the support. He is, after all, a supporter at heart himself.

And as the Celtic fans belted out a song in tribute to Mikael Lustig throughout the game against Ross County – sung to the tune of the Atomic Kitten song, ‘Whole Again’ – Tierney was delighted to let the Swedish defender know all about the song.

“I played Mika the new song in the changing room after the game,” Tierney said. “Everyone was loving it and it’s a belter to be fair.”

Brown himself has tipped Celtic teammate Kieran Tierney to eventually take over captaincy duties from him when the time does come for him to hang up his boots for both club and country, after a great performance as he led his country for the first time against The Netherlands.

“The wee man was phenomenal, and I think that’s one of the best performances I’ve seen from a young kid coming through and captaining his country,” said Brown.

“At 20-year-old to come in and captain your country at centre-half which isn’t even his position, to do what he did was fantastic.

“He was playing against top quality players and he made it look nice and easy. He was controlling things and binging it out from the back.

“It was great to watch, and it was everything that our manager at Celtic wants him to do, and he did it at centre-half.

“He’s definitely the man for the job after me. Everybody looks up to him because of his will to win in training and in games. He goes into tackles and you know he’s going to win it, and he puts that belief in everybody.”

I’ve just thought. He was only 14/15 when the original Rangers died. :88:
