I think Forrest offers a bit more defensive cover which is needed given how rapid and effective they are down the left..

I honestly feel it's part of Paddy's loan deal to play in these matched tho.. so will expect him to start..

Do you want to do a poll of Celtic fans to see who the vast, vast, majority think are our 2 best wingers?

I think he tends to shrink in these games where Paddy shines personally. Plus Forrest is the better option off the bench IMO.

We need to support Paddy better in Champions Leagues games, we aren’t brave enough when we give him the ball.

Roberts is better, but hes not been this season. Id play him vs anderlecht but not vs bayern until 60+ mins.

Think that's a bit unfair on Forrest he was instrumental in getting to the group stage & then hasn't had a chance to prove himself in the group this season.

I agree that Paddy is a more dangerous player and got no support in Munich from a Rogic or McGregor who didn't start. Because Paddy takes more chances in taking players on he loses the ball more often v the very best teams which is criminal in these types of games where possession is everything.

Forrest is better at tracking back and is more economical with the ball. It would be foolhardy not to try and counter the danger they pose down our left. Maybe a change of formation might be the answer but if we go 4-2-3-1 I believe Forrest to be the better option to start. Stay in the game and bring Paddy on when legs are tired.

It's to Forrest's credit, that even though dropped for Paddy in the big games he has been professional and made this a genuine debate.

I would play Forrest from the start as Paddy left Gamboa wide open at times over in Germany, hopefully stay in the game aslong as possible and bring Paddy on later to go at them.

Forrest has scored loads of important goals, would never dispute that.

My point is, if you want a match winner against Bayern then it's Roberts over Forrest every time for me.

Of course Roberts is better but that's not the question here. Form rightly plays a massive part.

Paddy can still be a match winner from the bench, he can't be a match winner if we're 3 down at HT after we get cruelly exposed again down the left..

Good to have two excellent options..

I personally think Forrest being the better defensive option is an absolute myth, probably the biggest about this Celtic team do I don’t see it at all.

    Paddy is the harder worker.

I've seen a massive difference in James Forrest last season and this season from the JF of old.

For me, he looks like he is working harder for the TEAM than ever before.

Paddy this season (imo) has looked far more "selfish" and only has one thing on his mind when he's on the ball....

I said a few days ago Forrest should start against Aberdeen based on current form. But against Bayern Roberts should start, like you said Roberts turns up in the Champions league

Forrest's attitude actually changed when Deila came in. He looked leaner, stronger and harder working.

I genuinely think the problem with Paddy is the reliance on him to create something from nothing. Particularly away to Bayern almost every single time he got the ball and tried to take us up the park there was not a single option for him and he ended up down blind alleys.

Better teams do that to you but the likes or Armstrong were running away from him and making it worse.

Paddy is a tremendous player, no doubt. His strengths lie in cutting inside from the right and conjuring up a bit of magic - I just find that more teams have cottoned on to that this season, and he's having to work even harder than before to come up with something "new" which I don't feel he's managed to pull off yet. More times than none though, push him out wider on to his right foot, and there's less end product.

Forrest gains us the yards up the pitch - vital in Europe. His sheer pace and directness can be an invaluable weapon, and I'd prefer to see him get the nod of Bayern, even if he runs all night at the left back, tires him out, then Paddy comes on for the impact later on in the game when fatigue starts to (hopefully) set in on the opponents.

Forrest needs to start. Been comfortably better than Roberts this season and definitely does add more defensively. He’s actually less predictable on the ball than Paddy, too.

Nope, not having that. Forrest has improved massively in workrate and tracking back.

Paddy did more working back the way against PSG at home than Forrest ever would have. Source - me sitting 4 rows away from him and witnessing it. It’s a myth that you play Forrest over Roberts if you want to be more defensive.

At the very worst they are as bad as each other from a defensive perspective.

Forrest is far superior defensively for me, his positioning and tackling has went up massively since Rodgers came in.

One of our Champions League games last year, think it was the 3-3 with City, he had the most succesful tackles completed for us :56:

    Bonkers man.
