Yeah, there's a massive Scottish influence in some areas. Even though the majority of the migration happened generations ago there's still a strong Scottish identity with place names and culture in some areas, Nova Scotia for example.

It's funny how in Scotland, a lot of the natives get angry about those of Irish heritage not becoming culturally Scottish after a generation or two. But they don't appear to realise the Scots are/were the exact same, Canada and the North of Ireland being two examples!

Aye my auntie was saying like loads of business and even people she went to school with would have names like Wilson, Hamilton, Stewart, Wallace or whatever.

Get what you're saying about Scotland. Kind of weird, all my dads family from immigrated here from Ireland where as my mums side have emigrated from here to all over the shop. Family in Australia as well and spoke to them about Scottish history in Australia. Knew it was common there but was surprised by how much Scottish influence was in Canada. Fascinating when you look into it.

I'm sure years ago Billy Connolly said a joke about the Scottish migration to Canada. He wondered why did they bother moving to somewhere so cold, dull and miserable when they could have stayed in Scotland where it's the exact same! :56:

It's probably the most Scottish thing ever though. Just immigrating to somewhere the exact same but bigger. Nova Scotia-New Scotland, sums it all up :giggle1:

Thinking about it, the joke was the early migration from Ireland to Scotland, but the point still stands!

I'll have to copyright that joke for myself, become a stand up comedian. Big CeltPauli, the next big thing, you heard it first! :52: :57:

That I can log on to the net to find the answer to something then, 4 hours later, forget what I originally went on the net for in the first place.

It's probably similar to a woman going to the shopping centre for one item and returning 6 hours later.

When examined after his death, Albert Einstein's brain was found to be 10% smaller than the average human brain.

There is only one team out of the 92 English clubs across the four divisions that doesn't have a- a,q,r,o,p,d, or b in it's name... Any guesses?
