As long as its interior isn't modelled on the design of the kerrydale suite

Could imagine it the nights CATB or the Wolfe Tones etc play the Barrowlands the night before a home game against the huns, Hotel packed with tims going to the gig then game next morning, rebs blasting in the hotel all night. * washing their corn flakes and toast and jam down with buckfast and a few lines at the breakfast table :36::celtman2:

Obviously matchdays/the eve of match's wouldn't have occupancy problems, if they did then it really would be pointless building it, its the other 300 plus days I would be concerned with.
Your last sentence about everything having been thought about - That is simply not true, at this point anyway, given the article I posted said they have yet to conduct a feasibility study.

I just know whenever this gets up and running there will be people girning and moaning that the staff aren't paid more than minimum wage, or the going rate for hotel work as its more commonly called :giggle1:

Dermott Desmond has built and owned hotels before though and still does, so he must know it inside and out or people who do and it will be him who has decided that it would be a good idea. It'll have been his idea and possibly might even be him who pays for it as well, im sure 1/3rd of Celtic Park's money came from him, most of Martin O'Neills transfer money and pretty much all the money for Lennoxtown came from him. So really every big event where people invested to get something done he put in what's turned out to be I think over half the money.

Aye DD has built/refurbished hotels however I don't expect the type of hotel he deals in would be considered as an option here tbh.
I don't think he has bankrolled us as much as some think either, which is a good thing as ultimately we need to be sustainable ourselves.
I aint against this, as I said I think it will be a good thing but we need to get this right otherwise it could quickly turn into a millstone round our necks, a lot will also depend on the size of the proposed hotel.

But in buying and building hotels before and the circles he's moved in he will know hotel experts and have spoke in depth with them, he probably even has guys in mind who he will want running the hotel, maybe even working in the kitchens and all that who have worked for him before or worked for pals of his who have hotels and are well recommended who will do a good job. He's probably been planning this for over a decade, it's not like if it was a random football team for example Sevco deciding to open a hotel who know heehaw about it and are going in blind. Desmond will have ran it over likely dozens of people who he's known and trusted over hotel business for over 20 year likely guys he has worked with and works with to this day and his Billionaire pals who also have hotels.

True he hasn't really bankrolled us but he would have, I think he prefers everyone to invest when we need money and would rather stay out of it but if other people don't step up he pays whatever is needed to get it done.

1994 - £26million raised for Celtic Park, Desmond paid £4million, although he said he would pay £8million if needed.

2001 - £22.5million raised for capital and to pay off debt, Desmond paid £10million and said he would pay £15million if needed.

2005 - £14.5million raised for Lennoxtown, Desmond paid £8million, said he would pay £10million if he needed to.

So £22million out of £63million although if other fans/investors never stepped up he would have invested £33million, he has put in when we needed money. He also paid £8million for shares off McCann in 1998, although that went to McCann so didn't really matter.

If we decide to have a share issue to raise some of or all the money for this project no doubt he will stick in half the money or more if he needs to.

CELTIC Football Club is pleased to confirm that planning permission in principle has been granted in relation to recent development proposals to create hotel, museum, retail and ticket office facilities.

The application is part of Celtic's long-standing masterplan for the area, a vision which aims to deliver benefits to the club and our supporters and allow further regeneration of the East End of the city, something to which we are totally committed.

It is important to emphasise that considerable work and investment over a number of years would be required to bring this project to fruition..

Celtic aims to be a world-class football club in everything it does. We are pleased to have made significant investment in recent years to develop the stadium and public realm area for the benefit of our supporters.

Any further development of this kind would be a hugely positive step for the club, for our supporters and for the local community, but we understand there would be a number of challenges to overcome to complete a development of this scale.

A spokesperson for Celtic said: “We are very pleased that initial planning permission has been granted. Clearly, there is still considerable work to be done in bringing such an ambitious project to fruition. However, we will now engage with other relevant parties to assess this potential development."

I love the smell of state aid in the morning.

I think this is great news especially if it has a function suite as Celtic could easily hire it for agms ECT which keeps all cash within the club
