Think he'll be a good addition to the br staff.

In his day one of the best defenders around, most certainly in Britain anyway.

Might be crucial in development of Ajer.

OK, I get what you mean and the sentence is grammatically correct; but I didn't half feel confused for about half a second. :giggle1:

Kolo has come back as Technical Assistant

JK still works with the defence.

JK was defensive coach under Ronny, is he not just a coach now?

First Team Coach in name but I would say he works with the defenders.

I'm sure Brendan said he works with the full squad.

Is there any such thing as a defensive coach really, guys in their 20s etc's styles of play are never really going to change, can only give them tips and advice but it'll likely not make much different as players have been playing how they play for 10+ years by the time they're playing first team football. Plus what do you really do different in training anyway if your coaching a defence? doubt * are practicing tackling and heading balls in training.

Yes, there is. It's about the shape, stepping up, dropping back, set pieces, working as a unit, improving individually.

Pretty sure the only top team who don't really have a defensive coach is * Arsenal.

Against who, people kidding on to be playing against them? must be the most useless aspect of training.

Against the likes of Sinclair, Dembele, Roberts and co.

Probably harder for them than actual games.

I remember Roy Keane saying that 11 v 11 in training was harder than the majority of their games at the weekends.. you can imagine it being the same at Celtic just now..

If it happens, you canny really work on defending in Training. The stuff you said like shape, stepping up, dropping back defenders are used to that since they're kids, theres nothing much you can tell them that they are not used to their whole lives, it's 2nd nature to them.

Same with set peices, you can work on routines for attacking set peices but defensively you either man mark or zonal mark and again that's basic stuff they all know again since they were kids and theres nothing you can really do with it, players know how to do both already.

You can say that about every aspect of football. We may as well not train at all then.

You can practice a lot of stuff though, like passing, possession, shooting, crossing and all that.

But you can't really teach defending, just defensive systems but you can only teach the systems and everyone knows them anyway like high line, playing deep wether its a 3/4/5 at the back, if someone is to play the lead role in challenging for aeriel balls and someone else is to fall in behind. Me or you could tell players what they are to do or how to set up for zonal marking or man marking but we can't really show them or practice them at doing it as it's just a thing you do, that they already know how it's done.

I don't think a defensive coach is really a thing, like someone is training the defenders at training. 50% of training is players just going through excercises then other parts passing and shooting and possession and whatever drills or mini games or whatever for a bit of fun and all the players except keepers join in.

Just when I read them talking about who is the defensive coach and if he's going to help or take over from Kennedy, made me think that they think Kennedy or whoever are training defenders at training. But theres nothing you can really do for defenders or midfielders specifically at training, i've never heard of a midfield coach.

Maybe before upcoming games someone will take the defenders aside and give them tips about who they are playing against and what sort of players they have are and what they are good at and what they do at set peices and who can cross a ball so they know what they're dealing with and to look out for but it wouldn't necessarily be a defensive coach thing, any coach could tell them.

Of course you can teach defending ffs, it's no different than any other aspect of football such as passing or shooting.
