Put it this way, freak timing of injuries aside which was the only real reason why people wanted another CB in the first place. If you had Say Boruc Character, or a Forster Character in goal then our defence with someone like that leading it would be performing better then it already does.

Goalkeeper is not an issue at the moment, Gordon at 34 is still a good goalkeeper and still makes some great saves when it is needed. The question of a decent understudy is another matter. Gordon was NOT to blame for any of PSG's IMO. But I do agree Aberdeen have a good goalkeeper in Joe Lewis. Freddie Woodman of Newcastle is another who we should be looking at. Nothing wrong with a bit of forward planning.

That's not true. Go back and read the posts from over summer. You'll see that people wanted a new CB regardless. The general consensus is that we needed improvement in central defence and that's still true.

Maybe, but a CB is still a higher priority, if we want to improve our squad for Europe.

Gordon along with Lustig were * baby sitting as well as concentrating on their own games. Blameless.

That's fair enough, I just feel put a quality keeper in there and the need for a new CB becomes less of an issue for me as the likes of Jozo, Boyata, Erik and Ajer start to look like perfectly good options.

Plus in all honesty for me trying to find an improvement on Gordon would be easier then finding an improvement on Boyata/Erik, one of which we could realistically afford and that is who is likely to stay longer then 3 years.

After reading these comments, I just had a look at Hearts/Aberdeen game. That Lewis looks like a really good keeper. Couple of outstanding saves there.

But can Joe Lewis play football like Baresi. That is the acid test of a good goalkeeper these days....

Yes we will need a new keeper and am sure we are looking for one, thankfully we have the time to search for one as Gordon aint going anywhere for a while yet though.

Was it a 2 or 3 year deal he signed recently?

Watching those clips confirms in my mind that Boruc is the best Celtic keeper I've seen at Celtic park when he was on his game.

Compare him to other keepers we have, boruc, Forster or even the amount of top class saves the Aberdeen keeper pulls off. I don't remember a game where I've thought after it that Craig Gordon had a tremendous game and won us the points

A very average goalkeeper with a poor attitude. Once Boyata and Sviatchenko are back a goalkeeper is required more than a centre back in my opinion. Although both would be preferable.

Too long. Should've been sold while we had an offer.

If de Vries wasn't far worse than Gordon, then he'd be the main goalie. But he is indeed worse. If we looked carefully, and found a proven better goalie than Gordon, then good- Craig is backup or can be sold. Otherwise, better beef up the defense.

Hard to believe we got offered £5 million for him and knocked it back.

He may not have been at fault for any of the goals but the same could have been said for FF if he let in a bucket load against Barca. For me Gordon does not pull out a save he has no right to make often enough. We dominate domestically so he is good enough. In Europe the majority of the times we are playing teams better than us so to have any chance we need that extra bit of quality in goals.

I am still baffled how we done so well with Rab Douglas probably an exception to the rule

I think a lot of this talk about a GK and CB has been around "ah yeh he's good enough for Domestic footy" and "Do you really thinking having Courtois in goals would have made a difference against PSG"

But the real discussion should be about the middle ground - the games against Anderlecht and what we need there. We'll need a goalie to make Fraser Forster like saves (maybe one or two) but we will also need to play two natural CB's, rather than a RB in the centre and an 18 year old novice at RB.

And if I were to pick between GK or CB improvement Id go for CB, otherwise it wont be wonder saves our GK needs to pull of, it'll be school boys errors that cost us goals.

I'd say we need a good younger keeper to challenge him and who we can develop.I felt more assured in CL games with Forster in goals.
