Celtic Park Champions League Capacity?

Perhaps been asked before?

We are supposed to have a 60,500 capacity stadium so why is it always falling short these days? I can't remember the last time we actually had 60k in our stadium, or even 59's actually.

Tickets were like gold dust last night, sold out mainly to ST holders and only a few hundred tickets were available for the general public but yet the attendance was 'only' 57,562, some 3000 short of our capacity.

What is the reason for the front rows in the JS/LL stands being out of bounds? Is there anything Celtic can do or change to make these seats available again? Why did the section in the main stand (next to the away section) have a couple of hundred empty seats last night?

 

I'm assuming the large volume of empty seats around the traveling fans is because they don't travel in sufficient numbers to fill the stadium to its full capacity?

 

Sponsors and * like that.

 

Can't sell the front few rows behind the goals because apparently they make the sponsors less visible.

More the fact that you can't see over the larger UEFA advertising boards

No chance. Do you really think Celtic wouldn't take the opportunity to sell those seats as restricted view if that was the case?

 

Nope. That's 100% reason. JP Taylor regularly gets questioned on this.

Bigger advertising boards. Club not given the option to sell those rows. UEFA call the shots

 

Thought that used to be the case with the old static hoardings but the UEFA advertisements are shown on the club's electronic boards that are permanently installed around the pitch and that are used every home game

 

That's incorrect mate. They change the electronic boards for European nights

Three of our CSC are in Row C LL. They were told the following:

'Front rows of Jock Stein Lower/ Lisbon Lions Lower
Due to UEFA requirements, the front 3 rows at the front of Jock Stein Lower and Lisbon Lions Lower are not available for these matches. Match tickets will be issued to those affected by UEFA relocation.'

When they enquired specifically they were told it was due to UEFA advertising boards being used behind the goals. They look larger than normal below but would need a similar photo from a league game tbf

 

When at the game you can see they are different. The league ones are old thick silver boards & the one's for European nights are slim line black boards which are taller as well

Possible solution would be to lower the level of the playing surface to accommodate the larger advertising boards?

Celtic have just dug up their turf and will do so again at the end of the season for the new pitch.

I'm sure this will probably have already been looked into though. Seems such a waste for advertising boards and I'm sure the first 3 rows is a bit OTT.

Good point about the away allocation, not all teams are going to sell out theirs. PSG had quite a few empty seats further back.

A common response to that is simply "* UEFA".

 

We seem to give clubs a section of the main stand that hardly any ever fill. Segregation and the front rows behind the goal are another factor

 

It doesn't make it right though.
Fans are being pushed out of the game, even if you do make it to a European cup a huge % of tickets are for sponsors etc. Money is killing the game.

 

If memory serves me right, they housed the Astana fans in that small section in the main stand and not in the usual away corner as they were in such small numbers. Can't remember though if the away corner was full of Celtic fans though?

PSG are 2nd favourites behind Real Madrid to win the competition but yet they can't fill our relatively small away end corner. They were a good set of away fans, vocal and lively all night but still, for such a big club, they should have filled their allocation. We will take at least 5x more than what they brought to Glasgow. (Presuming they brought about 1k)

Was surprised that PSG are a relatively 'new' club having only been established in 1970.

Anyone know what that away end corner holds? 1800?

I think that's where Celtic attendances aren't as great as they used to be, the likes of Kilmarnock and Ross County etc are only bringing 1-200 fans these days. The away end section is simply too large for them.

There's 800+ now on the 18/19 waiting list for example. Some better planning by Celtic would see our attendances maximised instead of wasted.

 

Think the the level of the pitch will definitely remain the same. This summer was spent working on the foundations. Was under the impression we were stitching into the existing surface
