    The universe is infinite, we are told, and is still expanding so what is the universe expanding into, as its infinite ?

    When astronomers say the universe is expanding, what they really mean is the observable universe, i.e. stars, galaxies, etc. This has been well measured going back to Edwin Hubble, and some astronomers won the Nobel Prize in 2011 for actually proving that this expansion is accelerating using type-Ia supernovae - the objects I study!

    I can't speak much as to whether the universe is infinite or what constitutes the space that the observable universe is expanding into - that's a topic for the crazy theorists. Check out holography and how Leonard Susskind beat Stephen Hawking in a debate over what happens to things that fall into black holes. Insane stuff. :50:
