KIERAN Tierney is only 20, yet he has already packed in plenty of football since making his first-team debut back in April 2015. He has 19 European appearances to date, which includes UEFA Champions League group-stage football as Brendan Rodgers guided the Hoops back into their place alongside Europe’s elite last year.

The Irishman has done it again this season, with the 8-4 aggregate victory over FC Astana of Kazakhstan in the play-off round ensuring Celtic’s name will be in today’s group-stage draw.

For Kieran Tierney, it will represent another step in his education as he gets the opportunity to take on Europe’s elite. And he will be as excited as every other Celtic fan when he discovers which teams will be heading to Paradise this season.

“We came through the qualifiers and it’s something we should be proud of,” Tierney said. “It’s a great achievement for the club once again.

“The boys did well against Astana. We came back and scored two late goals, which shows the character we have in such a high-pressure game. We won by four goals over the two legs. We’ve had tighter ties than that, and we’ve scored eight goals over two games.

“We switched off defensively in Astana, but that’s just one defeat in six European games. People need to focus on that. We could have played better, but we got the job done.”

Now the focus for Tierney and his team-mates is on today’s draw. Last season, Celtic were pitted against the top seeds in the other three pots – Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach. If that happens again this time around, the Hoops will relish the challenge.

“I don’t mind who we get in the draw,” Tierney said. “We’ll get a good game in every pot so it doesn’t really matter. I don’t want to avoid anyone, and we’ll deal with it when it comes. The most important thing is that Celtic are in the Champions League.

“When the draw takes place today, the only thing that matters is that we’re there – just like last year.”

Just sent Hartsons article on Tierney being worth 50m if has another good season in Europe to a hun colleague....

Word for word reply I got.

"You're obsessed with us man, 50m for a over rated decent fullback who does well in a pub league haha. You'll lose him and dembele soon and you'll soon fall below us as we're the most successful club in Scotland WATP"

My reply - You're right one day you may win another title and Tierney may leave. Do you think by then we'll have 15 in a row or 20?

    Nothing since :56:

Disagree with what he says there about him wanting to go in 12-18 months. Honestly find it difficult to see him wanting to leave anytime soon.

As a Celtic fan, the prospect of being part of a 10IAR winning squad is surely playing on his mind. By that time he still wouldn't even be 25 years old!

Think he'll stay a good while yet, til he's so proven in the CL that only one of the v top European clubs come after him. After 5 or so years at a Bayern or whatever, I think he'd come back here, play for a few years, and retire.

KT has got what it takes to get him to the top, and he's an incredible example of what hard work and determination can get you. If he was to move on and rub shoulders with heavy hitters, then he wouldn't just be an example for Celtic fans, but the whole of Scottish football in general; This is what could happen, but you have to take the bull by the horns, so to speak.

KT's love affair with Celtic will never die, regardless of where he plys his trade.

When you have such an exceptional young talent, it's inevitable that the big guns will come calling with the kinda money that will be impossible to turn down, i'd love him to spend his entire career playing for Celtic, but we have to be realistic.

Another good season and if he performs well in the CL his value will soar even higher.

I'd actually be disappointed if he did stay, in a weird way. Only because I think he wouldn't get the recognition of his tremendous ability if he did stay.

Would love him to go to Munich.
