Now contrast him with Stephen McManus mentioned 2 threads below.

Tony Watt - Bags of ability and potential, scoring vs Barca. Now in the Belgian 2nd division at 23. Waster.

McManus - No natural ability. Celtic captain, nearly got us to the quarter of the CL, keeping a clean sheet against AC Milan for nearly 180 minutes. Always gave 110%.

Was it not yourself that still had him down as better than Griffiths at the start of last season?

He quite clearly has more than just "limited ability". You only need a pair of eyes to see that.

It's something other than talent that is holding him back.

Lennon knew it would. Tried to take focus off the goal to keep his head on his shoulders. Never worked.

Watt's been raved about at every club he's went to - until he's went off the rails and fell out with the manager.

He's getting to that age where the occasional flashes of brilliance doesn't impress anyone though.

He's 23 and never had a good season though. People sleggin off Scott Allan for being 25 and the only good season he had was in the Scottish Championship- but at least he had that. At some point Watt needs to have a season at a club where he looks impressive, not a game or two.

No natural ability? Don't be daft. Defending and doing it well like McManus did is footballing ability.
Not having a great first touch or doing step overs doesn't mean you are a * defender.
Rather disrespectful to say he has no natural ability.
He wouldn't have been a professional footballer otherwise.
Determination and hardwork are part of it but so is a talent for your chosen position - you can coach all you like but if you don't have natural footballing ability regardless of position on the pitch then you won't make it.
How many of those keepy uppy YouTube twats are about? Wonderful ball control but no football instinct so they don't make it in a team.
They would beat McManus in a keepy uppy competition but not on a football pitch in a match.
They are gifted but not in the way others are.

He's on a personal mission to out do Colin Kazim-Richards in the 'Who can play for the most teams' battle. Colin is on 13 so Watt will have to pull his finger out.

Serios waste of talent, he'll be * off with himself when he retires and its too late, he'll always be the kid who scored v Barcelona but never did anything else. Playing in the second tier of Belgium football is really poor. Hope he can turn it around.

He isn't that good because he's a * waster, that's the full point. He had talent, he had ability. It doesn't matter a shred because he hasn't got the head for it. The guys a complete and utter failure.

Watt was raw as * because of how late he came into football, but the amount of potential he had was insane.

6ft2 and athleticism that 90% of footballers just can't physically get close to and a goalscorer.

The boys just a complete wasp. Every manager thinks they can be the one to nurture him but he keeps * them up and they punt him as soon as possible.

Tony Watt and Tony Watt alone is to blame for how * his career is turning out.

Agreed, but it is easy for us to judge too. I know little about the lad away from football, although I have heard that future appearances on University Challenge are unlikely, but how would we have handled it?
I mean, given the whirlwind nature of his success, it is easy to see how he could make a mess of it.He's just a daft wee kid who got too much, too soon.It is quite possible that he surrounded himself with the wrong people too.
There is a chance that going to Belgium will give him a fresh start and a chance to focus on his football. I would love for him to apply the natural talent he has and have a decent career.

What a waster. Deserves to fall further into obscurity now. Could have been something special.

Not sure about that mate. He's made a pigs ear of a Belgian stint before.
    Wash, rinse, repeat.........

Pity, quite obvious there was talent there.

You can excuse being a daft wee kid once, maybe twice, but when everyone around you is telling you the same information that you continually choose to ignore all the while you're hopping from club to club, surely there comes a point that you wonder why things aren't clicking?

he's got nobody to blame but himself. Arrogant, wee guy that thinks he is above the advice of professionals.

If he couldn't turn his career around at hearts he's got no chance of doing it anywhere else.

Hearts was his last real chance, back up in Scotland, with a team who he should have been an integral part of, he could have stormed it with hearts at the time but his attitude is stinking and he fell flat on his gaping *.

Even catching the Brendan bug couldn't save this soul
