Absolute madness. I'm going to assume that we will stick to Celtic Park time as trying to adjust to that would be insane.

Just wondering does anyone know why teams from Kazakhstan are allowed in Europe? Don't really care but don't see any reason for them to be allowed to compete as they are not in Europe.

Nerves starting to kick in already lol. I dont know why because surely the tie is already over. Probably because we have had so many problems qualifying in the past and on the road and all and because we are within touching distance of the group's again.

Wouldn't be a European away game without everyone * themselves before it! Should be straightforward.
Even with a bad performance I can't see us conceding more than 2

Someone quotes the guardian in that thread (though their link doesn't link to it). Politics. They make it out like it's some moral pish but reads to me like they realised they were cannon fodder in afc regardless and their clubs would get more money in uefa qualifying at least. More so they seem to have wanted the uefa/European interest to help spur on the development.

So in short, they were cheesed off at being * and took a quick gamble on European participation to get some extra money and exposure.

Never knew that. I actually thought they qualified due too being part of the old USSR.

Looks like that's what they based their application on (as could others, but don't). But they were formerly afc after the ussr collapsed. 2002 seems to be the year they flipped over.

Aye seems strange they were allowed in after going down the Asian route to begin with.

A win would be a tremendous achievement, Astana have never lost a home game in Europe, even Atletico Madrid couldn't win there a couple of seasons ago.

Anyone a detailed analysis on Astana home record this last few years who have they held draws with and won against?

Yes and we did the same last year, Lustig was explaining it in an interview the other day.

Lustig said: “Obviously it’s important for us to get a good result at Celtic Park in the first leg.

“The time difference, I believe, is harder for them to deal with coming here. They’re effectively playing in the middle of the night.

“And we want to make the most of that in the first leg so we can go to Kazakhstan on the back of a positive result.

“I don’t know how they’ll prepare for that. Will they try to stay on their Kazakh time or what?

“But it’ll be like 2am for them in the match over here.

“When we go there for the second leg, we’ll stay on UK time and it shouldn’t be that bad for us.

    Yes they've landed

Go to Champions League results and press home and you'll see all their results at home in the CL/CL Qualifiers.
