Although we might be in a better position to sign him next year.

He'll probably have a year less on his contract at City, and a mortgage with Kieran Tierney up here.

The fee they'll be demanding will be extortionate, now is clearly our best chance to get him on a permanent..

John Kennedy has told Manchester City that Patrick Roberts will return to the Etihad a better player if they sanction another loan deal for the winger at Celtic.

The 20-year-old Englishman was determined to fight for his place in Pep Guardiola’s team after an 18-month stint at Parkhead.

However, despite enjoying game time in City’s summer tour of the USA, Guardiola has informed the youngster that he still feels his development is best served by another season elsewhere.

Roberts has told City chiefs his preferred option is Glasgow but the club’s desire for him to taste life at the likes of Southampton has led to an impasse.

Kennedy, though, is adamant that another year in Glasgow – with the guarantee of European football – would be the best environment the player could wish for.

‘I think you just need to look at how much he has improved in the last 18 months,’ said the first-team coach. ‘We’re going to be in Europe this season again.

‘When we sent him back they will have seen he was a much-improved player. Hopefully they will look at it from that perspective, but it’s their call.

‘Patrick could maybe influence that and they could have a chat about it but we have to take a back seat and be patient. I’m not sure what Man City’s thoughts are.’

Roberts’ representatives are currently deep in talks, with a decision expected imminently.

While the player could yet join Celtic as a wildcard in time to face Astana next Wednesday, Kennedy is adamant the club would be prepared to wait beyond that date to get a deal concluded.

‘The admiration for Patrick from us is very high,’ Kennedy added. ‘We admire what he gave us in the 18 months he was here.

‘Manchester City will have a big say. They’ve got him under contract and will be a big influence in what his next step is.

‘If the opportunity came to take him we’d be delighted to do so.

‘But it’s not up to us. We’ve stated from day one we’d welcome him back but it will be up to Man City and Patrick. At the moment nothing is moving.

‘We’re aware Man City may be looking to put him out on loan again.

‘They are aware if the opportunity came we’d be happy to take him but Man City might have other options they are pursuing. We just need to be patient. On the last day of the window if he became available we’d be happy to take him.

‘We’re in a position where if we’re going to add we probably only need one more player.

‘If Patrick became available, great. If not there are other options but it needs to be right. We won’t just bring a player in for the sake of it.’

    Now or never for permanent.

We should go all in and tell them we are not interested in a loan deal but now want to buy.

If need be, could be some sort of incentive based deal (like Roberts Fulham to City contract) and/or a sell on/buy back clause that suits Celtic/City.

We will never get a better chance to get this quality on a permanent deal.

man city arent selling,, stop with the throw cash at city chat, we wont be signing anyone for the amount of cash he would demand which would be a very minimum of 10 mil.. not a chance.

Am not happy with that either tbh, but thats Brendan said it multiple times, Kennedy and Davies now saying it, looking like a very low spend this transfer window compared to turnover. Brendan said 2-3 quality players at least well i can only see 1 to date on a perm deal.

Wouldnt surprise me Stu leaves and we end up in a profit from player trading again....

I think as supporters we want to see new signings every season. But we need to be patient as there is stil a few weeks of the transfer window to go. We have a very good team and squad that is continuing to get better, Ralston and Miller proved that the other night. If we bring players in they have to be a lot better than what we have, hence why we want Paddy as we know what we are getting . I think a couple of signing will happen when / if we reach CL. I don't think it is too do with spending money as Brendan would take not hang around but quality players want to play on the biggest stage and quite simply our domestic game is not that appealing to top players that would walk into our team.

Aye am not annoyed too yet. Will see how I feel 3 weeks today when window is closed and see how we shape up.

Lots of issues to be sorted on the field before then which takes more importance.

£10M is * all for city. * Liverpool are rejecting 90m for players and there not even as rich as city. If they want to keep him He's stuck there. Lawell will sort it though. He's pals with them.
