SCOTT Brown has echoed Brendan Rodgers comments and insisted that Celtic’s home-grown hero Kieran Tierney was born to be a captain. With Brown suspended, the 20-year-old old skippered his boyhood heroes for the first time in a competitive match in Tuesday night’s thumping 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock in the League Cup.

He became one of the youngest-ever players to don the armband for the Bhoys and he marked the occasion with a classy performance in central defence and a wonder-strike from 40 yards.

After the match, the manager heaped praise on the Celtic Youth Academy graduate, highlighting his professionalism and leadership credentials. The Celtic captain shares these sentiments and when he eventually calls his time on his career, he would proudly pass the armband on to Tierney.

“He was born to be a captain,” said Brown, speaking recently to the official matchday programme. "He’s a warrior. The fans love him and the lads love him as well. If anyone is going to take it off me, it would be a proud moment to give it to the wee man.

“He loves the club, he understands the club and he knows what it means to play for Celtic and to win matches and to lift those trophies. So you never know, one day, he could be captain of this club. He would love it and so would his family, so hopefully the wee man can stay here for a long time.”

 

I would love KT to stay for life, but that's the selfish side of me. The kid will be unbelievable in another 3 years and will be courted by the Man U's, Real Madrid and Barcelona's of the world. I couldn't possibly begrudge him going out in his prime It'll hurt, but he will come back, they say you have to let those that you love leave, if they love you back, they'll return
