He did fine in a pinch tonight, but Rosenborg offered little in attack and what they did was nowhere near Jozo's best. One quality centre-half can pull a rookie through, Phil Babb made a career on the back of Paul McGrath's performance in Giants Stadium!
He had a couple of nervous moments, as many others did, at the start of the second-half, including trying to win a ball in midfield he had no right to go for and was caught well out of position, unbalancing the whole team.
I also had kittens every time he had the ball at his feet, waiting for the inevitable lazy pass. Thankfully it didn't come tonight, but it would if he kept playing there.

 

Bitton has always had that problem. He's 6"2' and jumps 5"9'

 

In a Brendan Rodgers side he could probably be CB in a lot of domestic games and some of the qualifiers, maybe he'd be caught out against tougher opposition but he has all the tools to be a good ball-playing centre back.

 

Great to see Bitton being shown some respect on here for once and not being referred to in political terms or as a *. Brendan obviously likes him and that should be good enough for most of us.

 

forgot he was playing tbh but that means he wasnt lackadaisical which is fair enough

 

Didn't see enough of the match to comment on him but good to see him not getting stick for a change.

 

Let's not forget Javi Martinez was a holding midfielder not known for his mobility who made a good transition to centre-back under Pep's management at Bayern so it isn't entirely inconceivable.

 

Thought Brendan had * it by putting him on at cb but the big man played really well in there.

 

He done well tonight. Still a zionist * though.

 

When the backs are against the wall and every man is fighting for each other is Nir Bitton the man you want at CB?

He got big praise from Rodgers after the game, looks like he'll be in next to Jozo until we get a new centre half unless Erik is okay.

 

Martinez played centre half a lot for Bilbao.

The last year/18 months he played there nearly every game he played

 

I'm sorry but you've not been watching close enough as he wins countless headers in the air due to his height. Made a fantastic clearing header tonight which took the pressure right off us.
