That argument is * ridiculous by the way. That's exactly what it is. A football match. It's not a place to exploit your political beliefs. It's a place to watch a football match. I'm not saying the banner was right or wrong and I am not getting into a debate about the GB. However, that argument you used is ludicrous. A football match is exactly that, a football match.

We can all applaud the GB for changing the atmosphere at matches (I think we can all agree that home matches had become like a funeral service) but we also need to ensure they do nothing to embarrass the club or bring our reputation into disrepute.

They need to grow up and face the consequences of their actions.

Your counter argument started off badly, strayed towards the middle and the less said about the ending the better...

Thanks for taking part though x

    Utter nonsense.

See above, just because some faceless suit incorrectly asserts something is sectarian/illicit does not make it so.

They have done it because they believe in the struggle for a United Ireland and we happened to be playing a club whose supporters are on the opposite side of that struggle.

Had they unfurled a 'No surrender' or 'Derrys Walls' banner in the first leg I would not be climbing the walls demanding they were fined. It's hysterical in the extreme.

Who have they embarrassed though, and why should their be consequences? It's just a tounge in cheek banner at the end of the day.The only people looking to be offended are sevco fans and SMSM.

Do you think Celtic Football Club wants to identify themselves with the banner?

As said above, the very positive reaction inside the stadium to the banners tells it's own story as does the level of chanting of Republican songs (which London Dub is tellingly ignoring). The internet is always going to be full of utter blowhards, miserable negative dour bores.

I don't care what some suit like Bankier thinks - we've been here long before him and we'll be here long after he's gone.

So you're happy for the GB to act in a manner which will bring the club's reputation into disrepute and bring fines?

There lies the difference. I love Celtic, some love the GB more.

I am certainly not embarrassed. However, this is a football club. Football comes first and we need to remember that we are getting closer to a stadium ban for some fans and thats not worth it when we have serious games coming up in Europe. We cannot continue to disobey Uefa if we want to play in their competition. They make the rules and its up to them to decide what is against their policies. If we want the right to play in their competition then we need to make sure that we follow said rules.

The songs - within reason - are part of our heritage displaying banners paying homage to the Provisional IRA is not.

If Rangers or Linfield displayed banners of UDA fighters we'd be clamouring for them to be fined and rightly so.

    * deserved a hit there, but from behind is a bit cowardly...

Regardless of whether the GB accurately portray the views of Celtic fans or not, what they did yesterday they probably knew it would be scrutinised and more than likely lead to a fine (maybe even a fine at best, as threats have been made previously about partial stadium closures). There were literally thousands of banners they could have chose that would have riled Linfield, but they chose ones that UEFA will have no scruples about punishing us with.

To me it's just idiocy really, and as much as I like the atmosphere and the charity initiatives that the GB bring, amongst other aspects, they should wind their neck in when it comes to political banners which they know will more than likely get the club punished.

    "Linfied might turn us over"

    "Hostile atmosphere at Windsor Park"

"Players will never have experienced anything like it"

    "GB have embarrassed the club"

    Ignore the obvious troll lads.

The club has a heritage, its roots dictate that songs of Ireland and its story will continue to be sung. Anyone that has an issue with this needs to check themselves. Not to mention the fact that when taken 100% of songs sung at Celtic Park on a match day, only about 10% (at a maximum) are not, what would be considered, 'Celtic songs'.
