If you look at his opponents over the last 10 years they've a combined total of over 500 professional bouts and probably about 4/5 times that as amateurs. The only ones who have ever been stopped prior to fighting Mayweather are De La Hoya (stopped at Middleweight by a prime Bernard Hopkins!), Victor Ortiz (stopped by Marcos Maidana), Miguel Cotto (stopped by Antonio Margarito after facing 11 rounds of getting hit with loaded gloves) and Manny Pacquiao (completely flat-lined by Marquez). These guys aren't grapplers who have a few years striking under their belts - they're legitimate iron-chinned boxers who have only ever been troubled by the very elite of their sport. Their chins have stood up to literally thousands of fights combined.

One thing I wouldn't do is call this fight based on Mayweather's prior form against world class opposition, because he hasn't been in with an opponent this overmatched since the very early days of his career.

There was a video floating about the other day put together showing that he literally calls everyone he fights boy at one stage or another. He has also asked white people to dance for him.

    I completely disagree.

Most guys can dig hard enough to put someone on their *, but that's not enough to make him a millionaire in the world of boxing. To get the big bucks, he has to be able to consistently land that big punch that puts people on their *... and do it consistently whilst dealing with what's coming the other way for 36 minutes.

McGregor can fight - and yes, he can knock MMA opponents out with his hands. Doesn't make him a boxer though. Not saying he can't box - anyone can box... you can box... I can box! I suspect neither of us will be any good at it though - and nor is Connor McGregor.

Likewise, you, me, and Connor can probably also play football. Doesn't mean we're good enough to get signed for a pro club.

Connor has one chance against Floyd - land a haymaker. If that doesn't happen, then it's going to be an easy EASY night for Floyd. Floyd is a master boxer. If he avoids McGregors hands then it'll be like a kitten playing with a ball of wool.

Your opinion on the fight is the same as everyone else's so no disagreement there.

Most guys cannot hit hard enough to put a world class boxer on his *. Ridiculous suggestion.

    http://www.thejournal.ie/the-journal-factcheck-mma-boxing-safety-injury-2713577-Apr2016/

Good little article covering almost all the different research cases on injuries in mma and boxing.

I think given it's relative infancy compared to boxing it's hard to really say which is the most dangerous, right now things point towards MMA being the your most likely to get general injuries like cuts and bruises but because of the extensive history of boxing compared to MMA it's there where you likely to find fighters getting the more serious head injuries.

Personally though I think MMA has to be safer then boxing due to basic facts like if you get sparked out and your flat out on the floor you are going to get mounted and have your face caved in, so in theory if MMA refs have to stop fights alot quicker as you can only imagine the effects that constant barrage of hits to face would have on a man of the fight were allowed to continue.

Either way I expect Floyd to win on points but if Connor was to spring a massive upset I think it will be largely down to his real unorthodox style as I can't imagine he'd punch and move like a conventional boxer so maybe it might just make him harder to read

I think most people think Boxing is more dangerous now than MMA. It went full circle with people realising that constant punches to the brain and the deaths in boxing proved this to a lot people. The most controversy with MMA fighters is the weight cuts and the health issues regarding that but most people don't really know about that yet.

Conor does not have an unorthodox boxing style, Conor throws basic southpaw boxing combos and does boxing feints with boxing counters because he original background is boxing, his stance in the octagon is MMA stance but when he's sparring in boxing he reverts to a boxing style; and the reason he does this is any kind of non-boxing style doesn't work in boxing under boxing rules.

Agreed. His boxing will look a lot more orthodox than people expect. He'll keep using that 'in and out' movement but there will be none of the karate stances, hands behind the back or anything like that. At least not while he's in punching range, I fully expect him to drop his hands a few points during the fight but I reckon he'll be halfway across the ring when he does it :giggle1:

Would actually rather watch this than the Mayweather bout. Mayweather is a huge name fight but, if he really wants to try boxing, there's decent fights out there for him.

Good programme on BT there, love Dan Hardy and his break down stuff.

He has no interest in trying boxing.

With the small exception of the boxing bout he has in a few weeks time.

    Taking over boxing :50:

    *took over boxing*

Wee bit different from trying. 100 million pounds without ever stepping in a boxing ring. Astonishing.

Seen some tweets attributed to Malignaggi (after sparring) in which he talked about McGregor being "No mug" and how there was a method to his madness.

Read into that how you will.

    Of the actual sparring?

Just seen a video, Paulie looks conveniently stood to avoid the camera seeing what looks like a wee black eye.

Afterwards. He does stand like that normally in fairness, creepy wee look to the camera every now and again. :56:
