I wouldn't be so sure, he's a different player but there are things he's 100% improved on. The biggest one being decision making.

His finishing has improved as well.

Yeah, mind you, Everton fans said he was absolutely rank rotten for them, surprised he hasn't made a better success of his career, I wonder if he regret's leaving Celtic.

You're right about his finishing, I watched him last Year and he was putting 'em away with great composure. He wasn't snatching at them like he tend to do with Celtic, not sure how we did in Russia, I didn't watch him much, but it didn't really work out.

I feel, we've probably got the slowest squad in the Championship with Lee Cattermole, Jack Rodwell, John O'Shea, and Seb Larsson amongst our ranks, so a much needed pace injection is just what the doctor ordered.

Having said that, we're extremely un-prepared for this season and Boro, Villa and Leeds look like they have much stronger squads. I'd snap your hand off for the Play-offs, although we could really struggle with our tough fixture's to start and end up looking over our shoulders if it doesn't work out on the pitch.

Looking forward to seeing McGeady if he does sign.

I remember a Mackem telling me he played at Sunderland once for Everton and completely ripped them to bits. He was very impressed with him that day.

Good club to add to his CV at this stage in his career, hopefully keeps up his form.

That'll be that as far as we are concerned now.

I'm glad we didn't get him tbh, such a frustrating player at times and a player that the fans have no patience with..

It seems the more homegrown the less we have patience with, which is weird really. Forrest and McGregor bring out the worst in some of our support..

    Interview with him

    https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2017/july/mcgeady-speaks

Aiden McGeady believes former club Celtic are perfect pre-season opponents for his new side, Sunderland.

The Scottish champions travel north on Saturday 29th July (KO 3pm) to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Stadium of Light.

McGeady, who came through the youth system at Celtic Park, is in line for his home debut and can’t wait to step out on Wearside as a Sunderland player for the first time.

“It’s great preparation – Celtic had an unbelievable season last year and the manager has built a good squad,” he said.

“For a pre-season friendly you couldn’t choose a better club, with the fanbase and following they have.

“It should make for a good atmosphere.

“I just want to get started now and repay the faith that the manager and everyone has shown in me.”

He added: “I grew up a Celtic fan, had a lot of good times there and left on good terms.

“I played against them a couple of times in the Champions League while I was in Russia and got a decent reception.”

With tickets for the game now on sale, McGeady will be backed by quite the personal following for his home debut.

“Some friends had already said they were going to the game, and when I was being linked with Sunderland they were asking me what was happening.

“Now I’ve signed they’ll definitely come and there’s quite a few of them!”

It does seem to be the case. You get it worse if your pasty and ginger. That's why Jinky and TB were so good.

For 250k I would have taken him back. A lot of you might not agree, but on his day he is brilliant to watch. Scored some cracking goals for Preston last season.

Doubt we were ever looking at him anyway.
