What makes you prefer him because he is catholic? Or is it just a 'by definition' type of thing?

It's the English Catholic ethos that I like, to survive the persecution that they have endured for centuries makes me respect them,

Fair enough but I think he is catholic because of his irish Granny. I dont think the likes of Rees Mogg has suffered persecution in his life

I don't think a Catholic has suffered persecution in England in quite a while, not for their faith anyway.

Do you respect that he now persecutes people?

    Cheers. What a brilliant website!

It will take me some time to got through this but based on a few random clicks into some of the debates I dont see anything that screams persecution (although I no doubt disagree with most of Rees Moggs social politics). But I will try to get some time to have a real read

He’s a moron who’s totally out of touch with social reality. The fact he’s a Catholic is totally irrelevant, and if it is to be made relevant should mean even more so that his opinions are totally incompatible with his faith.

He’s literally a Tory from the Victorian era who, if he even gets a sniff of significant power will take the country backwards. Plus, the idea that he’s somehow anti-establishment is laughable. This guy is completely establishment!

The man is a snake, every now and then he'll come out with something outrageous that would rival the nonsense that Boris can spout.

However he has way of saying it that sometimes means he gets away with it, but in the end he is a man who's stuck in the past, perfect for taking over May.

On his social views, I tend to disagree more than agree, but he has become a target for basically being honest when the same media channels deliberately dont ask the same questions to other MPs.

Papers like the guardian round on him because he doesnt support gay marriage and he doesnt believe in abortion. And because he cites his religion as a cornerstone of those beliefs he is mocked, even when he stresses these are only personal views.

Yet the same paper doesnt seem to press Labour Muslim MPs about their views which are likely to be similar to Moggs (and half the people on the the planet). The only one the is questioned is Sadiq Khan and that is because he is uniquely liberal on social issues. It is basically his USP.

So while I disagree with Mogg on a lot of things, I do think he comes in for harsh treatment basically because he is posh and honest.

He seemed kind of likable and honest to me at first but the more you see on his voting record the more their is to dislike.

    He does believe in abortions.

Well his £5million shares in a pharmaceutical company that makes abortion pills says so.
Or is it different when there is money to be made?
    How very Christian

I think some of the posts regarding his Catholicism is totally out of date. He is one of them. And will never be one of us, the working classes. Society is built around the haves and have nots.
Usually with the haves taking the very little the have nots own.
