    You shouldn't force open shells of mussels after they have been boiled as they will likely make you ill. Only eat the open ones.

    (I was told whilst trying to crack open a closed mussel)

    Before you cook them, if you give them a tap, they should close over. Then open back up of course.

    When cooking, the live ones will open and the dead ones will do nothing.
