FFS no it doesn't. The EPL teams have vast sums of television revenue every year to buy and sustain the wages of proven international talent, the cream of the crop. We simply cannot and haven't been able to afford that and whilst we play in the SPL we never will.

Na i'm not swallowng that,i understand with sky tv money the epl teams will always have vast amounts of cash rolling in but can you honestly tell me teams like portsmoth, birmingham, aston villa, fulham who are hadly ever on the tv yet can still buy players that cost 6,7,8,9 million pounds have an advantage over Celtic? with our revenue, fan base, merchandise?

I don't think so,i just think your so used to the 'celtic way' concerning transfers you are blinkered when it comes to progression, thats not an insult thats my view from your previous posts

It doesn't work like that mate, doesn't matter how many times you're on the telly and the slice of the pie isn't decided that way. Sky for example pay X amount of money to the EPL for the TV rights, the EPL then divide the money equally among the clubs. That's why the likes of Portsmouth, Birmingham and a few others can sustain a challenge in the EPL and can actually afford a decent team. That and the fact that there is usually a moneyman behind the scenes also.

I agree we're a very successful business and I also think we should be prepared to spend big this summer as it looks like the Huns will and they could easily outspend us. IF and I repeat, IF we change manager it'll be an expensive exercise and could cost us at least 15mill. In saying that though, to get to the CL and actually do something, you have to spend. Whether we will or not is open to debate...I mean, the opportunity was there post Seville and Lawell sidestepped it...who's to say he won't do the same again now. The cheap option is Strachan and if he stays I think it'll only be for one more season, in which case he's a lame duck and there's no way Lawell will give him a big kitty to play with...it'll be held back for his replacement. It makes more sense anyway!

The bottom team in the EPL get £30 million in TV & prize money thats before matchday revenue, strips sales etc. So yes, they are in a better position to spend £6million - £9million on players.

Celtic have done as much as possible to maximise income but unfortunately the fact is we can never compete on financial terms with EPL teams.

Has anyone mentioned Jimmy Bullard of Fulham. If Fulham get relegated then he could become available. A great engine for the midfield and he can score goals as well.

Good player and one i'd be going for personally! He will have a lot of EPL teams after him but you never know plus his wages would be in budget!

You're not swallowing what? I have the facts and figures here in front of me if you want a copy? I'll even break it down in a word document if you want, we're a plc all our financial information is published it's not as if the board are sitting with a big vault of pound coins like Scrooge McDuck and refusing to go out and buy players, the money just isnt there to sustain would you would deem to be suitable talent.

I'd love to check out the scandinavian and dutch market more often. we could find some reasonably cheap players in germany as well with a decent level.

Fletcher isn't as good as Riordan was at Hibs imo and even he's not good enough for our first team, you're also contradicting yourself somewhat there as he's 'run of the mill spl talent'

We're not under ambitious we've a board that is realistic and one that refuses to gamble with the future of our club. The best way to progress is follow Wenger's model at Arsenal only problem is if it's a toss up for a young French/African/whatever footballer between us and them then we're also rans but if you get them in early enough you're laughing.

thats the way this season feels. just feel riordan even after what hes said today deserves chance and could prove to be the dif between us and them in the nxt old firm game killen is ideal big striker like sutton was.I would love to see keane here just cant see us getting the money for wages. What about beera of hearts to replace caldwell and possibly kewell as no fee involved could be put to better wages

I wish we could get the likes of Richard Dunne or Gareth Barry but sadly our board's ambitions lie in either the SPL or the Championship!
