I've just came into a realistic transfer targets thread and i've yet to see 1 player we have a realistic chance of signing :87:

Hyppia will get a new contract at Pool, Keane will be staying at Spurs, Dunne will either get a new contract at City or he'll have his pick of EPL clubs offering better wages, Modric is good enough for the top 4 down south, Bridge is earning more than we can afford, as is Brown, as is Forlan.

If you want realistic targets think more along the lines of Championship level or guys that don't get a regular game at an EPL club otherwise we won't be signing any household names.

I'd take him in a second. Get a bit of pace down both wings that way.

Abdoulaye Meite of Bolton Wanderers would be a good signing. He was in good form for them earlier in the season but has fallen out with Gary Megson. He is exactly the type of player that would suit our signing policy in that he has proved his quality before but is now damaged goods, giving us a chance to sign him.He had a very good time at Marseille and could be gotten for under 2m.

John Mensah would be a * brilliant signing.Captain of Rennes, captain of Ghana.Pacy, strong in the tackle, great in the air,an organiser and a leader of men.Only 25 and is an unbeilevable defender. He would cost around 4m but there are rumours of EPL clubs sniifing around him so maybe we have missed the boat.

Taye Taiwo of Marseille would also be a great signing.TBH I wouldn't have thought we could sign him but we were linked in January so maybe it could be a goer.A great young LB but he has stated his desire to play in the EPL so maybe we have again missed the boat.

Up front I would keep Samaras but if he didn't want to stay then I'd go for Moustapha Riga of Levante. He is their top scorer and a quality player.Trouble is,he also has expressed the desire to play in the EPL.Maybe a good wage offer would change his mind and he would cost 2.5m max as Levante are skint and can't even pay their players' wages.

Is that not the problem we have at the moment, that * just aint good enough for celtic and slag the spl off if you want but no way does championship players cut the mustard in the spl never mind europe! We should rightly look at better if its hard getting them then were doing something right means theyre worth getting.

I wish we do sign him, realistic or not. I was talking about this to one of my pals the other day who is a Marseilles fan and he claimed that it was impossible cos going from Marseilles to Celtic would be nothing but a step backwards. Wanna prove him wrong:icon_mrgreen:

That's the market we're dealing in unfortunately. We can't even compete with the likes of Pompey in the transfer market, some Celtic fans just have to deal with the fact instead of sticking their head in the clouds.

who says thats the market were in, you? what are you on the celtic board, the account man. what because weve signed some * in the past we should continue to do so. To say we cant compete with the bottom end of the premiership is nonsence, do they have 60,000 season ticket holders, do they have the commercial pull that celtic have threw out the world, sell as much merchandise have access to cl money, celtic have money weve spent in the past and we can spend now, the board just are reluctant at the minute probably due to the state of rangers but that didnt half backfire this season, they improved slightly we went backwards. But its something they really have to look at doing in the summer. Have a bit of ambition fgs. Im not asking for 25 million pound players but players that are better than championship level and better than zander diamond, rob jones, fletcher I just cant understand this honestly. Head in the clouds ffs no ive got ambition and want to see progress which will not happen by dwelling in a market you seem acceptable for celtic.

You are totally correct to say that we SHOULD be after better than Championship and SPL level players.

    Unfortunately we are NOT.

Easy tiger, i wasn't aiming anything at you in particular.

Past dealings tell you where we shop, we don't buy proven talent that gets a game for EPL clubs or any of the big clubs in Europe actually and whilst we're a part of the SPL we never will, thats the facts. There's a section of delusional fans that think we're a bigger attraction than what we are, yes we're massive but we play in a relative footballing backwater and that chokes us.

So to say we'll go and guy Robbie Keane, as the fans love to every transfer window, for 12 million then pay him 60k+ a week is a fallicy it just will not ever happen.

SPL or not m8 our annual income must smash every other teams over and over again, thats the whole point, forget about we're in the spl & so on lets go out and make a statement to the spl the epl the world if you like! that Celtic can & will sign excellent players, how will we ever progress when we continue to buy mediocre players? i'm not asking for lionel messi's just a bit of quality we're not skint!!!

FFS no it doesn't. The EPL teams have vast sums of television revenue every year to buy and sustain the wages of proven international talent, the cream of the crop. We simply cannot and haven't been able to afford that and whilst we play in the SPL we never will.
