On class, it is stark how differently the media portray the working class in situations such as this compared to in issues such as brexit, corbyn, etc.

Between ITV and channel 4 news tonight, there were maybe 10 people they spoke to and every one was a very ariculate and rationale working class member of the community.

Compare that to discussions on brexit or welfare and every 'man on the street' they seem to show is inarticulate, undeducated and angry.

It really does highlight the extent to which the media aim to shape perceptions.

Richest borough in London . How do we get rid of these tower blocks and build houses for the richest of the rich . Lets clad the building with material banned in the States, the plebs will think it looks great , nice smart new facades. It was a Tory council in charge at the time.

Plenty of waste ground now building will have to come down.

Perhaps if she got out there sooner, she wouldn't now be the object of justified rage. This is an abominable crime. I don't think she anticipated the public reaction, the potent outrage. In fact, given what we saw on the election campaign, I think she has incompetent people skills. She's a civil servent not a Prime Minister.

I think you're right, if she was on top of the situation from the start, she would have appeared prime ministerial and not just labelled a Tory. Some situations transcend party politics, 9/11 for example. Should the leader respond and sound the clarion call they receive a groundswell of support. The fact that she did dither opened the space for the unfeeling Tory narrative to gain momentum with all the echoes of previous disasters rooted in class prejudice eg Hillsborough. A Guardian columnist called this "May's Hurricane Katrina". That's a bit far but who knows?

On another note, I think the Fire Brigade have got questions to answer. Firstly they turn up without a ladder. Really? You hear of a fire in a tower block and you don't have an extended ladder? Secondly, they were still telling people to stay in their flats while half the building was on fire. In these incident minutes mean lives.

Perhaps that's through hindsight and I'm being too harsh. It was an unprecedented incident.

Anything she does now is reactive and will quite rightly be viewed as just covering her *. If she had been proactive from the start she might have taken some abuse but at least she would have been seen to be doing something.

Where are you getting this Firefighter stuff from? I've watched a lot of this unfold and haven't heard anything of the sort.

McGuires probably the best man to speak to on this. But there does seem to be a lot of land grabbing from the poor to put up more luxury apartments in areas of London. Constant money going into regeneration projects whose main aim is to box out the local working classes.

It was an accident lets be honest. However you can completely understand why the average joe would think the way he does. There is such a massive disparity in wealth in that area that folk like him must feel completely left behind.

They spent millions on that block, yet only to appease the rich in the area by making it more aesthetically pleasing.

Aye the austhetically pleasing bit is massive here, yes it looked the part in with the other luxury towers in the area, but those said towers won't be * absolute death traps.

Excuse my ignorance here but how could the cladding have been passed by the fire safety in the first place ?

Aye and the 'savings' made on things like sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers.....* disgusting playing * roulette with people's lives........as said before they can shove a * public inquiry up where the sun don't shine....* like May and Rudd choosing the parameters for yet another whitewash. Criminal investigations needed and culprits thrown in jail!!

That area is literally one street apart or other side of the road rich/poor divide. Council house to 2 million pound property.

by having poor regs in place that stuff like this can get through...just heard on newsnight there that this stuff hasn't been used in Germany in years!!

£2 difference between this stuff and the more fire resistant stuff apparently according to the box there!

I would've thought materials would be tested before being added to the building, wrapping flats in a flammable coat is totally insane ?

It's definitely the haves and the have nots, those poor people have lost everything, I cannot imagine what they are going through, this shouldn't be happening in 2017, in the early part of the century aye but not now, this is sheer negligence and there needs to be questions, but will the answers be honest or true that's the thing.
