Sounds like the fire somehow or other got to the outside...possibly a blown out window and caught the cladding. Everyone describing it say it was a rapid fire up the cladding. That in turn would blow peoples windows in. They were interviewing the guy whose company put the cladding on and they were trying to push him into a corner as to the safety of the cladding and if it was combustible or not and he didn't seem to know. Kind of felt sorry for him as he was puting his head up above the parapet and he was still in shock himself.

It's horrendous no matter what the cause and unimaginable that such devastation may have been caused by a faulty fridge. You hate speculating on something like this but it's hard not to try and make sense of something so awful. Given that there had been power surges a few years ago it's not entirely impossible that this could happened again. Whatever the cause I feel terrible for those folks who have suffered and it makes me sick to my stomach watching it.

An old woman said that she didn't hear a thing that she just happened to look out the window and see loads of fire engines. No one had knocked anyone in her landing up to tell them to get out!

It's always some cheap materials. I remember had a fire in Cranhill which killed a family. Turned out they were using straw for insulation between the walls. Went up like a firework. Can't stand these * cuts; a pound over people mentality. It's despicable.

Capitalism at its finest. There are scructures in Egypt over 5000 years old, still standing. Nowadays there are buildings erected only 40 years ago needing tore down.

I stayed right beside these flats last month. Not claiming I had a lucky escape or anything like that. Just puts a bit more realness to it when you know the place.

Yep. Feel sorry for the people tasked with recovery, very grisly job you'd imagine. Dangerous as well in this case.

You can clearly see in some videos that there is two severe fires raging up the sides of the block.
Presuming that's the cladding on fire.
One of the former residents association members stating that a contractor came to his door and threatened him after he complained ffs.
My fear now is, if heads don't roll for this and rightly so, more of London will burn.

Sickening the way developers risk lives for the sake of cheap imported materials, hear of it happening frequently on these apartment blocks.

I only pray that if they sadly did die they were knocked unconscious with smoke inhalation rather than burning to death...this is really sad and shocking news today.....throwing kids and babies from Windows and people jumping...a throwback to 9/11..

horrible way to end a life.....sad
