Aberdeen are doing very well to get more than a million for him, so I don't see why they should get Christie as well.

I'd happily let Christie sign for them, taking Hayes and giving them their second best player from last season makes sense and keeps them a wee bit stronger.

I think Hayes will excel under Brendan, he's fast, strong, good technically, hits a bad boy of a dig and can play across the front 3. At first I wouldn't have gave them the money they want but the ideas grew on me, think he'd be a great signing.

Hayes is a 30 year old, good squad player that wont complain and make our good chemistry any harm. I think that is how Brendan looks at it. We will have a quality starter on that position, but a good Hayes at backup and still have no complaints etc in the dressing room.

It softens the blow, we don't want to give the huns too much room to catch the sheep. Give them Christie and 1.3m and they can hopefully get a decent player or 2 with that.

I hate the sheep but I'd like to see them become a constant second force in the league.

He's the best player in the league outwith ourselves in my opinion but £1.3 million would still represent bad value in my mind. Considering his current contract is up next summer and he's unlikely to sign an extension, we could sign him on a pre-contract in 6 months and - if necessary - pay a nominal sum to get him in early a la GMS.

    Contract not up till 2019

Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2019.

The 29-year-old Irishman was the subject of three failed bids from Cardiff City during the January transfer window.

"I was more than happy to sign again and I have appreciated every minute that I have been here," said Hayes, who moved to Pittodrie in 2012.

"I am still enjoying it as well, working under the manager."

Dublin-born Hayes has added 12 months to his previous deal and boss Derek McInnes will hope others follow his lead.

Niall McGinn, Ryan Jack, Ash Taylor, Andy Considine and Peter Pawlett are all due to be out of contract at the end of this season.

"When I signed the last extension, I think it was three years ago, I always said that as long as he [McInnes] was here I would be happy to stay and I think that is the same with a lot of the boys," added Hayes.

The winger spent three seasons at Inverness Caley Thistle before joining the Dons and has scored six goals in this campaign.

I think having a comprehensive and settled squad for the qualifiers represents the most value for us.

I'm still not convinced but this makes a lot of sense to me.
And anyway who am I to doubt Brendan.

Just to play Devils Advocate for a minute mate, if you were Aberdeen losing your best player for £1m would be a blow. Especially when you see the figures being branded around for some of our players. So you can see why they are trying to get Christie as part of the deal.

We get * off when clubs in England don't offer what we perceive our players to be worth.

So £1m + Christie loan seem reasonable.

Unless we pick up a couple of injuries I don't see Christie getting more game time this season with us than he would at Aberdeen, another loan spell as part of the deal isn't a loss for us imo.

Fair play. But with a year left on his contract, plus his age, he's going to have minimal resale value for us.

So a player that is possibly one of the best players in the country, outwith what we have, and some are saying he isn't worth over a million .. we need to stop talking down our own league's standard folks.

I don't think we're looking at that aspect, if we can get three good years out of him as a squad player he'll have been worth the cash.

It's funny, it's a deal that I was quite cool about initially but the more it's went on the more it makes sense. He'd be a great squad player.

    Agreed mate..

I'd pay up to £1.5m with no Christie.. £1.2 maybe £1.3 with Ryan as a loan included.

Agreed, the thought that Aberdeen should somewhat be happy with £1m+ is something I bet Aberdeen fans don't agree with.

Scotland's second best team should not have a ceiling of £1m for their best player, especially a prime, full internationalist who is under contract.

I think what has been quoted represents value for us, but not Aberdeen.

Agreed. But that doesn't mean at any cost. Value is subjective.

I cant really state a value, for him JC, as it depends on what Rodgers plans are for him. If he see's him as becoming important then who is to say 2 million wouldn't still be a bargain. I just think we are quick to talk down the value of players in our league. I also don't think the club are looking at him as having much, if any, future 'sale' value but that's not a problem. Then again I also hope KT has hewhaw 'sale' value in the long term either.

I'm relatively happy if we sign Hayes, not the superstar signing we'd maybe like but he'll be a good signing for us I imagine. Never thought of him as a Celtic player but always thought he was a good player and I think he'd do a job for us.

I think it's always a good gamble to snag one or two of the Leagues better players from the other clubs as they usually don't cost a great deal and they can be productive signings. Some of our better signings have come from other Scottish clubs so it's always worth the gamble.

I don't mind Christie going out on loan to Aberdeen for a year as well because he isn't going to get a lot of game time here and I'm not convinced he'll be good enough for us in the long term, so a year on loan at Aberdeen is beneficial for everybody in my mind.
