JONNY HAYES has admitted he is flattered by Celtic’s interest.

Aberdeen ace Hayes has confirmed he’s aware Brendan Rodgers is keen on taking him to Parkhead.

Hayes, 29, is also being chased by Cardiff and the Irishman admits his future is up in the air.

Asked about Celtic, he said: “We’ve obviously known about it for a while now.

“There have been a few things developing with the club.

“It means you are doing something right if somebody else is taking a look.

“You can take it as a compliment. As far as I’m aware I am still an Aberdeen player.

“I enjoy it there and it’s an old cliche but we’ll wait and see what happens.

“I just wanted to finish the season with Aberdeen and I signed a new deal there in January.

“I was really just concentrating on that.

“Whatever happens over the summer will happen.”

I'm hoping he's just backup for Sinclair.

I'd like him and Roberts. GMS will go so we are going to need another winger.

Roberts, Sinclair, Forrest and Hayes. Good 4 to have, variety of attributes there.

I really am just not getting turned on by Hayes. Whilst I can understand the logic behind it, spending 1.2 million on a 30 year old domestic back up is proper head scratching material. To me anyway.

But regardless, I hope he signs and proves me to be completely wrong.

Ack I hope it's a Hartley/Robson kinda thing. I like him, I wanted us to take a chance on him when he was at Caley but thought he was too old for that chance now. Who are we to question Brendan though?

That's what it does come back to, you have to trust his judgement.

Being told implicitly, on more than one occasion by more than one of the management team, you're getting 2 quality additions and then signing Hayes however...

I'm in the same boat as you on this. I hope to * if we do sign him he's not one of the blue chip signings

I've always got the impression they weren't talking about filling in gaps in the squad when they were talking about the quality players though. I would be shocked if he was one of those considered one of the 'quality' signings.

I'm not completely sold on this either, admittedly. However as I said above this is surely a squad addition, a guy who is proven in the SPL for nearly a decade now and has the attributes to fit Rodgers' system.

Not every player we sign will be a starter or 'blue chip'. Just like Gamboa and De Vries last summer, we are going to need squad players. We can't expect to buy someone at £4m or so and then tell him he will be a 4th or 3rd choice winger who will spend a lot of time on the bench. Hayes will come here not expecting to start but will be willing to work and do a job when called upon, knowing he'll get his chance. That is all you can ask for from a rotational squad member.

I think he would probably do well here if he does come, would prefer he stayed at Aberdeen though but that looks unlikely.
I'm not sure we should be upping our offer though so maybe let him go to Cardiff or let him decide if he wants to play for Cardiff or the mighty Celtic

"Celtic told to up offer Celtic have been told to up their offer for Jonny Hayes after Cardiff City matched the £1.2million offer for the 29-year-old. Aberdeen are resigned to losing the player this summer, though they would prefer to not sell to a Ladbrokes Premiership rival. Brendan Rodgers is looking to make the winger his first summer signing. The only thing really outing me off this deal is his age to be honest.

One positive way of thinking about it is if you think of Robson, Hartley and even Presley(seen that on FB somewhere). They were all quite old and did us a turn.

Mr Moravcic also. You never know pal if he signs he could do the business. As others have said I trust Brendan fully. If Hayes signs I will be right behind him.

    £1.2 million...LOL.

Who are Aberdeen kidding? He has a year left on his contract!

I'm all up for clubs playing hard-ball - I'm confident we do the same - but we shouldn't be held to ransom for a guy who will be a squad player in our team.
