I'd take him to be honest. It's not the step up in quality I know everyone is looking for, but the season just gone he was probably the third best winger in Scottish football and I think he will add a bit of quality to our squad as a whole. Getting rid of a lot of the dead wood and replacing them with guys like this we know can do a job in the SPL when others are needing a rest after European football is a good move. Especially as he has the pace to play in a Rodgers team.

Celtic will decide on Monday whether to push through a move for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes.

The Parkhead club have offered the Dons £1million plus a season-long loan of midfielder Ryan Christie.

However, as reports linked boss Brendan Rodgers with one final attempt to land Patrick Roberts from Manchester City, Cardiff City on Sunday night sought to exploit the delay by offering £1.2million for Hayes.

Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp is also weighing up a bid after Celtic's attempts to tie up a move for the 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international stuttered last Friday following an Aberdeen request to make Christie part of the deal.

The Scottish champions are unwilling to lose Christie permanently, however, and are willing to compromise by sending the 22-year-old back to Pittodrie for a second loan spell.

Celtic have also agreed terms with Hayes but, despite placing a medical team on standby last Friday afternoon, they have yet to get the winger's signature on a contract - prompting speculation that they retain hope of doing a £6m deal for England Under-20s international Roberts.

Hayes started the Republic of Ireland's 3-1 friendly win over Uruguay at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Sunday, playing for an hour before being replaced by Aiden McGeady.

The Dons star has been now been given 48 hours to resolve his future before returning to the Irish camp to prepare for Sunday's World Cup qualifier with Austria. Hayes leaves for a family holiday abroad next Monday.

That article is written as if a deal for Hayes would preclude one for Roberts, or vice-versa. Truly hope that is not the case...

Obviously not. Would make sense if both were targets.

Looks like this will be our first signing, which is a shame. If he'd slid under the radar after we signed a few high quality players i wouldnt mind, but it looks pretty embarrassing for us.

Mate take a day aff ffs!

We are signing a guy who was the only Celtic player not nominate for the POTY and is a Celtic fan! Who has caused us and other spfl teams problems in the past! Imo this guy is a direct replacement for gms and an enhancement on gms all truth being told!

Celtic will do their business effectively and efficiently one thing I am certain of Brendan @4-4-2 will sign higher quality for Europe won't you Brendan :fear:

I'd be pleased with this in a couple of ways. We've seen over the last few years that Hayes can be a real threat and is one of the better players in Scottish football.
On top of that, he is aggressive and works really hard - which is something Rodgers has stated time and time again that he looks for.
£1.2m is a good price, he's a vast improvement on Gary Mackay-Steven and he can play comfortably on the left or the right.

My question would be whether he represents a big improvement to the first team. He''s not better than Sinclair or Roberts and, on current form, Forrest would be hard to drop. Plus, his arrival would undoubtedly weaken Aberdeen, and I want to see them continue to challenge at the top of the League.
