Celtic are many things to many people, long before 1967 we were special. We were special in our formation and what we stood for and what we aimed to achieve.

I was born a few short years after our club's greatest on field achievement, but lucky in that my father went to school with some of the lions and latterly I would, on many occasions, drop Bobby Murdoch off on the way home after the game. Watching Bobby trying to clamber in and out of a small sports car with his stick was something we laughed about and if he was still here today with my father they would be pleased to note the car is now a bit bigger!

Growing up with Celtic and realising who we are, what we are, what we represent, the adversities we have overcome, the joy, the tears and the long held friendships forged over a love for the Celts is something we should cherish. The sense of belonging, the emotion and the fun is just a part of the overwhelming sense of being. I am sure other supporters of other teams feel the same way, and they should do. I will never belittle them for it, but Celtic is a giant in world football. The name is instantly recognised, the strip is admired and seen as a thing of wonder.

We pass but once in this life, we are lucky to have been born into this magical club and the magical people who belong to this club. We can travel the world and meet strangers but when Celtic is the common denominator we use the word "we". It's our club, it's our home. We share it together like a family exchanging the most precious gift.

I cried tonight during that marvellous documentary. I cried for the past and those who are no longer with us. I cried with joy at our success and I cried with joy at the thought of the future as Celtic evolves, built on the foundations and faith of our fathers.

This was the day, Thursday May 25th 1967, this was THE day when the world sat up and saw Celtic and it will never forget it.

We may have our ups and downs, but we always try to do it the right way. Those famous green and white hoops encircle big hearts in all who wear and believe in them.

This is the day, these are the colours, wear them with pride, wear them with joy in our hearts.

    Celtic

    I miss you dad...............

If you want to know just how special this club is to people all over the world, just imagine a 34-year old Slovenian with absolutely no ties to Glasgow, Scotland or Ireland, who's got tears in his eyes just two minutes into the documentary Notorius posted above.

I can't imagine how it must feel to be a "pure-bread" Celtic fan, whose love for the Bhoys has been passed on to him from his father or grandfather. I can only speak for myself and believe me when I say, I feel en overwhelming feeling of pride and love everytime I declare myself a Celtic fan. I'm sure people around me are tired of my green and white ramblings by now, but I don't care. My love for this amazing club will never die.

Hail, hail and enjoy this special day, Bhoys and Ghirls!

No such thing as a pure bred Celtic fan, mate. We're all supporters together.

WHEN Jock Stein arrived as Celtic manager in March 1965, the idea that the Hoops could become the champions of Europe was beyond anyone's imagination. To become champions of Scotland was a difficult enough task, given the team finished eight in the league at the end of that season. Yet, within two years Celtic were the Kings of Europe.

May 25, 1967 will go down as the greatest day in Celtic’s history as a team of players born within 30 miles of Paradise defeated the best the continent had to offer to become, not only the first British team to lift the European Cup, but also the first non-Latin team to achieve the feat.

And once the heat of Lisbon died down, Jock Stein spoke to the Celtic View about the club’s greatest trumph.

The Celtic manager said: “One of the things we did at Seamill while we were making our final plans to try and win the European Cup was to watch from start to finish the film of that great match at Hampden in 1960 between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt in the European Cup final of that year. All of us had seen it several times, but none of us tires watching the very fine play that is portrayed in it.

“Seeing it once again enabled me to urge the Celtic players to try to emulate the very high standard of attacking football, the entertaining football which made the match memorable.

“We of Celtic, I said, should try our utmost to emulate the teams and the players of that 1960 final. Now on reflection I think we were at least partly successful. I said in the recent souvenir issue of the View that, generally speaking, we in Britain were behind the top club sides in Europe in terms of skill and that we had to offset that disadvantage by being at our fittest, playing at our top speed, and showing our club spirit.

“I think it is fair to say now that we beat Inter Milan in the way we thought we might, but that we also matched them and even defeated them in the skills of the game. The reason for that is that we did not permit them to use the skill on which they have depended so much – the highly-technical defensive skill which enables them to dictate the pace of a game and to strike suddenly in attack by means of the long ball.”

He added: “I might add that Inter Milan’s manager, Helenio Herrera, might have been better off if he hadn’t come to see us playing Rangers when he did. That day he saw Celtic, in dreadful conditions, display their great stamina. I am sure he went home a very worried man, because weeks before the European Cup final he was preparing excuses.

“In the event we were the carefree side and the more famous, more worldwide experienced Inter Milan the troubled one.

“Now, our lads who have brought so much credit to the club have one more game before they go on a well-deserved holiday. We play Real Madrid in Spain a week today, and one of the reasons is that the Celtic players after watching that 1960 final were again full of praise for that wonderful player, Alfredo Di Stefano.

“When ‘Stef’, as they call him, made the journey to meet us in Estoril and ask personally that we play in his benefit match, all the players were eager to do so. That, and the fact that a game with Real will add further to our experience of world football, helped us to make the decision to go to Madrid.

“I have thanked the players one by one for their great effort for Celtic. Now I want to thank all the supporters, those who sent us messages before and after the final – Celtic Park has been flooded with telegrams as well as letters – and those who were with us in Lisbon or with us in spirit far from Portugal.

“I am grateful for the presence at the final of former Celtic players. I met Charlie Tully, Billy McPhail, Alec Burns, Frank Williams and Jim Kennedy, and I understand there were several more. To everyone who helped to make Celtic’s name great in the world, my heartfelt thanks.”

“I am now going to tell him [Herrara] how Celtic will be the first team to bring the European Cup back to Britain,” he told the press. “But it will not help him in any manner, shape or form: we are going to attack as we have never attacked before. Cups are not won by individuals, but by men in a team who put their club before personal prestige. I am lucky – I have the players who do just that for Celtic.”
    Jock Stein.

Happy Anniversary to the Lions :62:

I have just took an extra 5 minutes to iron my short sleeve Lisbon 67 hoops. Just to take pride and leave no creases.
I'm going to wear it with pride and in the knowledge that we belong to something so special and not everyone is blessed with that feeling of pride. I also get a buzz when players arrive without realising. And within a short time they understand. Izzy, Commons and wee Paddy being fine examples.

That footage of Jinky pointing at the Inter players as the team walked on to the pitch is * iconic.

Really should be used in every Celtic montage.
