Ex Celtic player and self confessed fan. One of management's rising stars and is very well liked and respcted by players and fans. Ticks all the boxes for me regarding motivating players etc and has his teams (trying) to play good football at all times.

Just wondering what the rest of you think of him.

strange jaw setting a bit like Bertie.

As for his ability - no top level experience. Well below WGS and MON who at least both had a lot of EPL experience leading up to a mid table peak and a cup final or so. It would be utterly lacking in ambition to go for him. I like the suggestions like Moyes and Hughes but they wouldnt come. I cant see us getting much better than a lower third EPL manager coming of we look to England. I have a feeling if WGS does go then Desmond will play the green card and go for Keane as cynical move with season tickets in mind. Keane clearly does not have the CV required, certainly lesser than WGS's much maligned pre-Celtic CV. I woudnt rule out him doing well but that would not be a merit appointment. There have been some intelligent posts on other Celtic sites pointing out the fact that we had better check what the realistic alternatives are before sacking WGS because we may end up with someone with far less credentials.

always have a soft spot for any ex hoops, doing a great job at motherwell but dont think i'd want him managing the hoops. some managers are more suited to managing smaller clubs and i think this may be the case with mc ghee, whoever our next boss is i'd like to have experience of managing a top team

Mark McGhee is a top guy as you say not what wee need at this time for our Manager though IMO.

We need an arogant so and so a born winner to shake up some of the players we have currently.

Hard to find one of those with an impressive CV. Keane, Moyes have the arogance in abundance but not realy the CV. Someone like Hiddink would be good a winner with a fine CV.

I like the cut of his jib. Likewise with Levein, if we went down the road of a young Scottish manager. Both at least know how to conduct themselves with a bit of dignity.

I'd be open to Moyes but I'd be surprised if we could tempt Hiddink. Keane is a no no for me. If he got the job it would be because he's Irish and not a lot else.

take him in a minute ,i think he has the arrogance that ellboy says but he has the dignity not to show to the outside world ,motherwell is not celtic by any means ,but i think he would be brilliant in the hot seat ,big gamble , but lifes a gamble , he has that touch and you can see how much his team ENJOY playing for him

I actually agree with the bit about Levein if lack of willing more prestegious volunteers meant a local man was our best option. He does have something about him. I have a feeling he would be good for us in the SPL but his Euro experience is limited. He is also a future Scotland manager IMO.

As for Keane, people criticise WGS'* and miss signings but Keane is the king of this approach. I have a feeling he would do very well but his appointment is not on merit and would be for all the wrong reasons. Support for it would be somewhat hypocritcal from fans who focus on discrimination.

In a perfect world I'd like to see what changes Strachan has lined up for the summer because as Keltoi has mentioned we need a dominating centre-back and dominating midfielder. Apart from those 2 additions I don't see anything major required as I feel Venegoor, McDonald, Samaras, Hutchison could prove to be an amazing strikeforce, with McGeady, Naka and BROWN (if he ever gets the * finger out) creating chances. We just need a bit of old fashioned (dare-i-say-it) Walter Smith robustness about us.

In terms of the next manager (as speculation grows about Strachan leaving) I am gagging for a bit of Louis Van Gaal who currently is at barely a UEFA cup side and has an outstanding record.

Failing that, despite what ellboy says David Moyes has a superb record - but how close were Everton to relegation one season? The board gave HIM the time to sort himself out and now look at Everton. Would our fans afford him the same kind of loyalty? Not by anything support of Strachan has proved.

Finally I don't think Mghee or Levein are anywhere NEAR qualified for the job, perhaps in 5 years or more but definitely not at the moment.

Think Hiddink has signed a new contract with Russia and Abhramovic(sp)is paying his wages anyways,
Isn't Levein on the board at DU now so can't see him taking it.
Keane is madness,It's got to be a manager with a grounding or an awareness of Scottish or at least British football, preferably English, Welsh or Scottish.

I think there's a lack of respect for what Keane has acheived so far at Sunderland. They were propping up the Championship when he turned up, they had just come off the back of four consecutive defeats and were bottom of the league, within that season they won the league...I think that's astonishing, doesn't anyone else?? If he was to get the job I understand that some could see it as a populist gesture but I think he's done more in his short managerial career than McGhee or Levein ever will, if people are insisting on a Scottish manager then we've probably got the best available.
Hiddink, Moyes and Hughes are unrealistic because they wouldn't come, Keane is my choice any day of the week.

Not sure mate. I like him, he's a good gaffer and might be a bit of a dark horse but so was WGS when the board brought him in. I have a sneaky feeling he'd at least put out a team of winners.

I agree Keanes overall managerial CV is impressive and he has done very decent if he keeps them up but its just too soon for him. He hasnt even a season at the top level yet. Most have a hunch he will do very well long term but its 2 successful years too soon for a guy with that CV to take the Celtic job in troubled times. Thats said I have a funny feeling Desmond will appoint him as soon as WGS leaves so you may get your wish.

You honestly think Keane will be offered the job??? I don't agree, don't think our budget would meet his expectations. I think I read somewhere he's expecting around 15 mill from Quinn and his backers in the close season. The figure might not be exact but it's up around there and I can't see us even coming close to matching that, even with the sentimental aspect thrown in!

Aye he's done well so far, great season this year. In regards to the Celtic job tho, i'd give it a couple of year yet to see if he can sustain it for any decent length of time.

    * EDIT *

Most of that statement could be applied to both McGhee and Keane, excluding the bit about having a great season this year.
