MAIN Celtic sponsor, Magners Irish Cider, is marking the 50th anniversary of Celtic’s historic 1967 win by releasing a limited-edition Lisbon Lions pack. The sum of £10 from each of the first 1,967 packs bought will be donated to the Magners Employability Project which, in conjunction with Celtic FC Foundation and the Tennent’s Training Academy, aims to help long-term unemployed people get back into work.

The commemorative packs of Magners Original Cider will bear the iconic image of the Celtic team taking to the pitch ahead of the 1967 final, with each bottle label carrying the names of the legendary players who made history in the Lisbon sunshine.

The limited edition bottles will be stocked in all lounges at Celtic Park and the Celtic Superstore on London Road at the final SPFL game of the season (May 21). It will also be available in Celtic Supporters’ Clubs and Celtic bars across Scotland from Monday, May 22.

To mark the historic year that Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, Magners will donate £10 from the first 1,967 packs bought to bring back their successful employability project this autumn. Details on this year’s Magners Employability Project, including how to apply, will be announced later in the year.

Delivered by Celtic FC Foundation and the Tennent’s Training Academy, the Magners Employability Project allows participants to not only engage with a variety of employability activities and certified industry training, but also dedicate time to health, fitness and nutrition with sessions delivered by Celtic FC Foundation’s coaching staff.

Participants benefit from employer talks, work experience, recruitment days, motivational speakers and sessions covering skills and qualities, job searching, CVs, application forms, interview techniques, work ethic, self-branding and work place expectations.

After graduating from the programme, previous participants have used their new-found skills to move into employment, further training or volunteering.

Carolyn Howley, a graduate of the Magners Employability Project in 2016 said: “I completed the course at the end of 2016 and cannot praise the project enough. I knew I wanted a job, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do or how I’d feel stepping out of my comfort zone.

“But the employability programme gave me the much-needed confidence to get back into work. Now, I’m Operations Assistant at Celtic FC Foundation - a job I never thought I’d be in – and I feel so lucky and grateful to be working here.

“If it wasn’t for the Magners Employability Project, I don’t know where I’d be, so for anyone unemployed at the moment, I can’t recommend getting involved enough.”

Paul Condron, Marketing Director at Magners, said: “We wanted to do something special to mark the 50th anniversary of Celtic’s historic victory in Lisbon. Incorporating the iconic image of the Lisbon Lions on to our packaging and their names on to our bottle labels, feels like a fitting tribute.

“The Lions themselves have always supported Celtic’s charitable heritage and the brilliant work of the Celtic FC Foundation. We’re delighted to donate £10 from each of the first 1,967 packs to the Celtic FC Foundation to help make a positive impact on the lives of others through the Magners Employability Project.

“It’s great to be working with the Celtic FC Foundation and Tennent’s Training Academy to bring this meaningful programme back for a third year, so that we can continue to hear success stories like Carolyn’s.”

Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation, said: “Employability is a key component for us and we measure success in terms of positive outcomes. We’ve found ourselves, in the last few years, getting better at helping people who are that bit further from the job market.

“The partnership with Magners is a great example of that. Partnering with organisations who share our values is crucial. Magners get what we are trying to do and we are very grateful to them for the way that they have embraced this in recent years."

So they aren't in normal supermarkets, then?

Wonder what Celtic bars etc will stock them, none through my way I imagine.

I'd imagine they'll be in supermarkets.

Talking about donating 10 quid from the first 1967 sold, they'd have to sell them in supermarkets to even anticipate those types of numbers.

They sold out after the game the other day, were meant to get more in yesterday but the delivery never arrived when it was meant to in the morning and was cancelled, they are meant to get more in Wednesday morning so they said yesterday. They are £22 each.

Which in itself is * because it was only the dafties that left early on Sunday that got a crate. Time I got out, after the lap of honour, there had been none left for half an hour.
