    Fergie was best known for his man management skills, his tactics, and delegating to the right staff members. He relied on Kidd for a long time, then Quiroz, McLaren for a while, and so on. It's perfectly reasonable to criticise some of his signings but it doesn't make much sense when you consider the results he garnered with that group of players. He arguably * up Stam, Beckham, Keane and Van Nistelrooy, as well, but you won't hear people talking about that much either. The point is he won them titles and that is all that matters in the end. It's not his fault they're in this predicament, quite the opposite.

    His failure to replace star players and leave them with a poor squad with hasbeens and younger guys who werent very good is how they've went on to struggle recently though. Because everyone knew they needed world class players they've been ripped off and paid over the odds.

    You can also argue that they wouldn't have those hundreds of millions to throw around if it wasn't for him. The fact remains he left them as champions, what happened afterwards is Moyes fault as well as others in charge since (upstairs too).
