Relatively poor from him tonight. Looked to punt the ball more often than most in our team. Didn't deal well with the elbow he took but the physicality was giving the rest our back four a hard time too.

Agreed mate, the only other game I can remember him doing that was the 1-1 vs the Huns.

Frustrating as he's good enough that he doesn't need to just hoof the ball up the park every time!

I feel like he's lost his ability to defend.

From no crosses getting by him last season he always seems to get beat now.

    Not good enough.

It was probably his worst domestic game in a Celtic shirt last night, but I suppose he is allowed one off game after being so consistent all season.

Needs a rest simple as, people forget he's only 19, it's unbelievable how consistent he's been since breaking into the team. He plays to such a high level already it's a surprise when he doesn't.

Lost his ability to defend :56: he was up against Hayes who was really in the mood last night, like to see you try.

He dreamt of playing for Celtic
    Since he was a boy
He signed when he was 7
It filled his heart with joy
Now he's in the first team
    His dream has come true
He's the best left back in Scotland
    He's Celtic through and through

KT: "I look forward to the next training day and the next game, and that's @ThistleTweet & we are all looking forward to it."

KT: "Qualifying for the #UCL gave the club great confidence and all the big-pressure games we have played in have been great."

KT: "Manager is always so positive with everyone, even just speaking to him for 5min, & that gives you confidence going into every game."

KT: "He's always confident and when you are in for a meeting, the self-belief is up and you are ready for training. It's brilliant."

KT: "The fans are great home and away, and they sang non-stop the other night and they are the 12th man for us."

KT: "It was a nice touch for everyone to give them their jerseys the other night to pay them back for travelling all those hours."

KT when asked if he saw himself staying at Celtic FC next season: "I do. This is a great place to be and I'm really enjoying it."

CELTIC defender Kieran Tierney says he fully expects this week’s Premiership encounter against Partick Thistle to be another test of resilience for the six-in-a-row champions, as the two sides prepare to go head-to-head for the fourth and final time this season.

The Glasgow rivals have met three times already during this campaign, and the Hoops emerged victorious on the first two occasions, before settling for a share of the spoils at Celtic Park in early April, following a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

A victory against the Firhill side tomorrow night (Thursday) would extend the Celts’ unbeaten domestic run to 45 games, ahead of this weekend’s final match of the Hoops’ record-breaking campaign against Hearts in Paradise.

There are now only those two opponents remaining in Celtic’s SPFL campaign who are able to halt the Hoops’ sensational season, but facing committed opposition determined to stop the run as the season has progressed is something that Tierney and his team-mates have become accustomed to.

The left-back said: “I think every side wants to beat Celtic and they always try, even if there’s nothing to play for. We go out there and give 100 per cent because we don’t want to give any teams any chances against us.

“Obviously, Partick Thistle are next and they’ve had a great season and they always try to play their own game. They’re good at playing from the back and they have some good players in their squad too, so it’ll definitely be a tough game on Thursday night.

“I think the last time that we played them the gaffer said that they’re one of the best teams in the league, and I think they are one of the better sides, they definitely deserve their place in the top-six.”

Following the completion of the league campaign this weekend, Brendan Rodgers will lead Celtic into the final of the Scottish Cup on, May 27, when the Hoops will be one victory away from securing the club’s first treble in 16 years.

Tierney admits he’s delighted to have been able to contribute to a season that’s been memorable for so many different reasons, for fans and players alike.

“There are a few great highlights from this season,” he said. “But I think qualifying for the Champions League gave the club great confidence to go and play in the big pressure games, and the way we’ve coped has been great.

“Obviously, last year we should have done better and when you look at what we’ve done this year, it’s night and day. The results and performances have been amazing and even if you look at the attendances, they’ve been different.

“It’s been a great season for everyone involved with the club. The fans are fantastic, home and away. You saw that in Aberdeen with the non-stop singing, they really are the 12th man for us.

“It was a nice touch to give the fans our jerseys too, just as a thank you for travelling so far to see us. I think everyone can feel the positive atmosphere that the fans give us and we’re paying them back with the results.”

Kieran Tierney has been named Young Scottish Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers’ Association for the second successive season, writes Stephen Halliday.
The 19-year-old Celtic full-back becomes only the second player to win the prestigious honour in consecutive years. Scotland striker Steven Fletcher was the first, picking up the prize in 2008 and 2009 while at Hibernian.

Tierney has enjoyed another outstanding campaign, despite being sidelined for almost three months with an ankle injury. He has also forced his way into the senior international squad.

“It’s great to win this award again,” said Tierney. “I’m very grateful to everyone who voted for me. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my team-mates, all the staff at the club and the supporters.

“I’m actually surprised because it doesn’t usually go to someone who’s had two or three months out injured. I’ve still played nearly 40 games, so I’m delighted. There’s a cabinet I’ve got for medals and trophies in my house. It’s getting full, but I hope I can keep filling it.”

Tierney will receive his award at the annual SFWA Player of the Year dinner, in association with William Hill, in Glasgow on Sunday.

They vary in size and shape but the most striking difference is their stature. Kieran Tierney’s shelves might be groaning under the weight but the teenager has as much attachment to childhood gongs as the ones he has claimed in his senior career.

The Scotland internationalist won the PFA Young Player of the year for the second successive season this month, while he has also collected the SPFWA too, again, hanging onto an accolade that was his this time last year.

“My friend thinks it’s class that I’ve got my very first boys club trophy from when I was six,” smiled the full-back. “I actually think the arm has fallen off. It was a pure cheap one, but I keep them all. There’s a cabinet I’ve got for medals and trophies. It’s getting full, but I hope I can keep filling it.”

Tierney’s appeal for Celtic lies in the aggression and energy he shows on the flank with this season confirming the upward trajectory of his reputation.

Liverpool and Arsenal have been added to the list of admirers who have kept tabs on his progress but for now the player has maintained that he is settled where he is.

Off the park, Tierney remains as unaffected as it is possible to be when a boyhood aspiration of featuring for your team of choice has been realised. Stopping for autographs and photographs with fans is not the norm for most teenagers, and yet the Scotland internationalist retains a firm sense of self that he attributes to still being around the same crowd of friends that he grew up with.

Tee-total, Tierney roped in a personal trainer during his own summer break to ensure he reported for pre-season fit and ready to hit the ground running and the teenager has his head screwed on when it comes to appreciating the position which he is in.

“I was with Netherton Boys Club with all my friends,” said Tierney. “I still know a load of the boys who were there because they are all my friends from my area. I was only there a couple of years before I joined Celtic, but it was a special time.

“They were a year older than me and everyone went on trials here and there. There were a couple who went to Celtic at the same time as me, unfortunately, they didn’t get in, but it shows they could have gone far.

“My best friend Jamie Rankin is my age and he played with the team. He was a great player.

“He got trials with Aberdeen and Hibs, but it was just too far away at that time. Stuff like that is unlucky.

“I’m with him most days. He gets up early for work. He’s a fabricator welder. It’s long hours.

“I go to training. I realise I’m lucky.

“I grew up living next door to Jamie and he’s always been there. Both times when I’ve had serious injuries, he’s been there hanging about with me for a few days, playing FIFA and stuff to help to take my mind off things.”

Tierney will dust down his dinner suit and get out the notebook on Sunday evening when he attends the Scottish Football Writers’ dinner in Glasgow. And the youngster has admitted that taking to the stage in front of expectant ears is harder than running onto the field.

“People go up and speak for five minutes and make people laugh,” he said. “I finished last year and people didn’t know whether to clap or what. They were saying: ‘has he finished?’

“I’m not funny. I’d get more nervous speaking in front of 1,000 people than playing in front of 60,000. It’s different. Football is my profession. Speaking in front of folk is not!

“I will be bringing my mate to the dinner but is he writing my speech? No, he’s not the brightest, to be fair!”

Interestingly, too, amidst the glamour and intrigue that Celtic’s season has provided this term, it was a prosaic afternoon against lowly Albion Rovers that Tierney would pick out as his own particularly favourite memory.

“Manchester City at home was a great game,” said Tierney. “Obviously, playing my first game at Ibrox and winning as well. There have been two or three moments, one was just coming back from injury and getting a start against Albion Rovers.

“Everyone has different situations and I worked hard for three months before it. Just to get back on the park meant the hard work had paid off.”
