I thought Izzy had a good game last night, unlucky to be subbed. He was putting in some great free kicks and corners.

Celtic stalwart Emilio Izaguirre offered contract by Costa Rican giants

Emilio Izaguirre has been offered a route out of Celtic by Costa Rica's most successful club Deportiva Alajuelense.

The full-back is out of contract this summer after seven successful years in Glasgow and he's yet to agree a new deal.

And the Honduras star has been offered a contract to return to Central America.

Alajuelense have won the Costa Rican league a record 29 times and claimed their piece of football history when they were recognised as the first club in the world to reach 100 points when they racked up 102 points in 1996.

But they have fallen on hard times and only finished third in the Costa Rican Premier League last season.

They are now managed by experienced former Real Madrid, Villarreal and Canada boss Benito Floro and club president Fernando Ocampo has authorised him to recruit some high-profile new players.

And they've offered 30-year-old Izaguirre a deal, although they are likely to also have some competition from MLS clubs.

I've seen Izzy linked with the MLS a few times. Is there a quota for CONCACAF players rather than just Americans?

There are no limits for foreigners at MLS aside from their weird transfer rules.

Say it every year, but until there's another promising left back coming through the ranks, there's no reason not to offer him another deal. He's great to have here.

How much would it cost to buy someone as good as him or better? He's better than anyone else in Scotland (bar KT).

It would be so stupid to let him go, unless he's on stupid wages, of course.

Even then, it would take a lot of years before they wages add up to what it would cost to replace him.

Only reason I'd even contemplate letting him, would be out of respect to his wishes and it was a mutual thing so he could get some game time elsewhere.

Izzy stepped up when kt was out. The guy has his critics due to his final ball and being caught up the park but for me he's been a fabulous player to have.

I really don't understand the few fans who think Izzy (and Lustig for that matter sometimes) are somehow past it and not good enough, he's not a starter obviously since Tierney has come in and been better than any of us could have possibly hoped for, but bar a few patches here and there Izzy has been an absolute machine for us over the years, when called up earlier this season to cover he didn't let us down one bit.

If he wants to leave to get regular football then fair play to him, all the best, but if he's happy here as backup then why wouldn't we offer him a new deal, who are we going to get better than him for that role?

    Spot on.

If he is happy then we should keep him. KT never shuts up about how much Izzy has helped him.

Hope he gets a run out between now and the end of the season. I would even play him tomorrow now that I think about it.

If he's happy playing back up, get him a two year deal or something.

Love him was really sad when I thought he was leaving last season but this time it looks like he'll be going although it'd be brilliant for us to keep him because it'll be difficult to find a backup left back as good as he is. All the best to him whatever happens.

Seems such a great bloke, one of the guys who no one could say a bad word against.

Like others have said, can't see how we'd replace someone of his quality, love the guy and love how he used to skin people alive before he got that cunting injury.

All in all though couldn't have asked for a better left back and he still has something to offer this team.

Keep him for as long as he's happy to stay.
