CM on having Scott Brown available for Scottish Cup semi-final: "Massively important. In every game he is a leader."

CM: "In here every day, he sets standards for the boys and we are delighted to have him available for the game."

CM: "At times on Sunday, it's going to be a bit frantic and he's the cool head that can steady the boys can get us playing."

BR on @ScottBrown8: It's really important that Scott is there on Sunday as he is a real catalyst for the team.

BR: I didn’t think Scott should have been sent off last weekend. We challenged the red card because we felt that it was a yellow.

SCOTT Brown is set to lead out Celtic at Hampden this Sunday in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, and Brendan Rodgers is delighted that his captain will be available for what is a vital game as the Hoops aim to take a step closer to securing a domestic treble, having already won the Premiership title and the League Cup.

The Celtic midfielder was red-carded towards the end of last Sunday’s league clash with Ross County, but with the club appealing the decision, he is available for selection this weekend, and his presence in the heart of the Hoops midfield will be crucial.

Speaking ahead of the semi-final, the Celtic manager said: “It is really important that Scott is there as he is a real catalyst for the team. I didn’t think he should have been sent off last weekend. We challenged the red card because we felt that it was a yellow.

“Of course, I’m very happy Scott can play as he is a top-class player and he’s been brilliant this season.

“Scott has played over 50 games for me this season and he’s been absolutely brilliant. I’ll repeat, I do not think it was a red card. Yes, it was a challenge that was aggressive but the reaction at the time from after penalty has probably affected the referee, but I’ve no qualms about Scott.

“He’s played in countless, high-pressured games and his temperament this season has been first-class. Scott is the type of player that goes into the game at the weekend and looks to dominate like he always has, but in the main he’s kept it under control very well this season.

    Why?

Most tackles, very high pass completion rate. What more do we need from a ball winning CM?

Better use of the ball, more energy and ability to help control games against top level opposition. He looked out of his depth against Gladbach never mind the Barca hammering.

Look Brown is still one of our better midfielders but our entire midfield has declined in quality since Wanyama, Ledley and to a lesser extent Kayal were all here.

He had something like 91% pass completion rate in the group stages and has now been named as player with most tackles.

Plenty of our players looked jaded against Gladbach and using Barca against any of our players is just stupid.

Sorry mate but like league tables, stats in this instance, playing against the best, don't lie.

He had the best pass completion rate out of all the British teams in the CL (not sure where he ranked overall but he won't be far from the top) and it's now showing him as having the most interceptions out of everyone in the CL and you think we need better?

His game is not about scoring. Look at Busquets (for example, if you need someone to compare him to), that's Brown's game. He's there to break up the game and help the CB's when the RB and LB bomb forward.

Do you understand what I'm saying?
