His westerns are class and probably killed the genre by injecting realism, and giving the characters depth. The good the bad and the ugly is my favorite film and along with the outlaw josey whales are two of the best westerns imo.
He is very conservative in his personal life.

He's a great. Didn't realise how old he was too. And he can direct as well.

Could blind fold the * with dental floss though.

Been re-watching a bunch of his movies just recently, including the likes of High Plains Drifter, Where Eagles Dare, the 'Every Which Way' films, The Gauntlet, Heartbreak Ridge, Kelly's Heroes, Pale Rider, Paint Your Wagon (not usually a fan of musicals, but it always makes me laugh), and probably my pers fav western, Two Mules For Sister Sara. And that's just the tip of the proverbail iceberg.

Though, as much as he has a certain charisma in front of the camera, I really think that his work behind it is probably what he should be remembered best for in the years to come. Since learning his craft back in the 70's and 80's, virtually every film he has directed for the past 30-odd years has been masterful.
