Make sure it's like a big crispy iceberg-ty0e lettuce, instead of a soggy kind

I've always been pretty lean, but I'm in my mid 40s now & suffer from a bad back & knees. I'm starting to fill out a fair bit & I'm about a stone heavier than I want to be.
I'll start to monitor my calorie intake (without counting) - (is this even possible lol) ie eat better, now the worst weather is past.
I'm going to join the gym & play golf more (if I can, with my back).
Is cycling or rowing better at the gym? I just want to lose the belly, I'm used to being fairly skinny - so muscles were never there anyway.

Cycling and rowing are both great, but rowing is more of a full body workout.

Do some weights too as that burns a lot of calories.

Had far too much time off the weights (one month). Fortunately I find that just two sessions back I see a difference to my shape again. It's the cardio that lets me down.

Promise myself I'll get morning runs before work but have yet to manage this once recently!

No excuses. Just point blank laziness. Late nights and "I'll get a run in after work instead"...

What kind of diet are you on? Or you just watching what you eat slightly more?

I'm wanting to shed some pounds over the summer. Joined the gym but after going for 3 weeks 5 days a week I've not been in a month due to being busy/stressed oot my mind. As a result I'm also eating like * now.

If I convince myself to go the workout isn't the problem. It's eating.

I need an easy, cheap plan of what to eat when I'm at home. I'm not overweight but definitely need to trim down.

Defs start running in the morning, I've been getting up at 6 for a run for the past few weeks and for the first few days it is murder but after you get the routine down its class.

A good way I look at it aswell is if you get it out of the way early you don't need to worry about it hahah

    Same.

Now in my new job I have a lot more free time so head to the gym at 6 and blast out a 5k or 30 mins HIIT on the treadmill.

Doing it fasted so hoping to knock off a few this week, can see me getting leaner but this visceral fat is * * to get rid of.

I'm always up at the back of 6 with the lighter mornings and always think oooh, I could go a run or get some weights in before work but just lie there with the fear checking the time every few minutes until I have to get up. Have been running after work this week but think I need to start doing weights and cardio to really see some benefits. Maybe if someone else in here who is struggling to get morning workouts done manages it it will inspire me/give me a kick up the * I need!

I went from 26st 10lbs to 16st 12lbs in 2 years by following the below:

Water - 1 x 500ml bottle in morning (gets metabolisim working)

Breakfast - 3 large beaten eggs scrambled no milk or butter, wee bit salt and pepper and 2 slice dry seeded batch or lightly buttered

Lunch - Salad box with 3no sliced meat or chicken, leafy salad, carrot, cucumber and coleslaw or beetroot

Afternoon Snack - Seasonal Fruit salad

2 x 500ml bottle water thoughout the working day (8-5)

Dinner - Bought a George Foreman and had Steak (cut fat off) pork steaks, chicken breast, steamed potatoes and steamed veg

Evening Snack - piece of fruit.

1 x 500ml bottle water in the evening.

Excercise 1 x 3km walk at lunch time (uphill if you can then back down on the way back) should take you 25-40 minutes.

Went swimming at night - 10no lengths of 25m pool (mixed strokes) then walk another 10no lengths with a weight/float tied to you.

Also played 5 a sides 2 nights per week.

If you get cravings for chocolate then Kinder Bueno or a Freddo and Quavers or Wotsits are best.

All those shakes (slimfast and Herbalife) drink plenty water to avoid dehydration, its a lots of * water speeds up your metabolisim and is a natural dieuretic.

Cheers for that insight mate, sounds like something I could get used to tbh in regards to the diet. I already eat a lot of chicken, pork and beef. Supplied with some pasta, rice or veg. It is mainly the snacking that kills me.

Water is another thing. Will need to get used to that as I dont drink as much as I should at the moment.

Well done on losing that weight as well. That's insanely good.

Basically, from reading up elsewhere too, just cut out the snacking, drink plenty of water, chicken, steaks etc and veg, combined with the exercising and cutting out *, I should hopefully notice a difference.

Going to joing a gym again, changed jobs a year ago and 4 months into it I'd lost 3 and a half stone. Been eating * awfully in that time, takeaways almost every night. It's kind of levelled out now so thinking if I actually try might get a good bit off.

Difference between a physical job and just sitting in an office getting hammered into a snack box is insane.
