    Seems a bit harsh, he clearly meets the category as it's written. Oh well, put him in at (13), then.

    Eusebio can't be picked for category 4 as Mozambique was not an independent nation when he was born in 1942, it was a Portuguese overseas territory. Indeed, he played out his entire international career between 61-73, before Mozambique actually became an independent nation in 1975.

    I know about Mozambique but even before independence, it wasn't Portugal. He wasn't born in Portugal so the pick is fine.

    He literally played for the nation of his birth, which Portuguese Mozambique for all intents and purposes was. Puskas played for a nation other than the one he was born in, Eusebio played for the only nation he was eligible to play for.

    I'm going to have to withdraw as there's no consistency here.

    No he didn't. He wasn't born in Portugal.


    Puskas represented Hungary most. Literally no-one thinks of him as being a Spanish player.

    Aye, technically he wasn't born in Portugal.

    You could make the same argument for half of the French national team over the years, as a lot were all born on French speaking colonies.

    It still wasn't the heart of Paris though or down in Monaco, so it's not France.

    Puskas you could make the argument for as he did play for a nation other than the one he was born in, which is the category. Similar story to Di Stefano in his career.


    I was considering putting Platini under that category as he actually played 1 match for Kuwait in 1988:56:

    He was born in the political entity, and thus country, of Portugal as it was in 1942. Matt le Tissier would be eligible for category 4 by your reasoning as he wasn't born on mainland UK, but was only ever eligible to represent one of the four UK teams. Mozambique circa 1942 was no more a country than Guernsey circa 1968.

    Hardly the point, the wording simply says 'represented a different country than the one he was born in', which Puskas did four times. He couldn't continue playing for Hungary due to the regime there being crushed by the Soviets whilst he was playing overseas, his refusal to return along with high profile players like Kocsis and Czibor landed him a 2-year ban from UEFA. He was a Spanish citizen for the last four years of his playing career.

    Which is patently absurd, Guernsey is not a country. The wording of the category rules him out. 'A different country than the one he was born in.' There is no such country as Guernsey, just as there was no such country as Mozambique at the time of Eusebio's birth.

    I don't see the point, this hampers my chances too much and thus saps away the enjoyment.

    Nothing you say can change the fact that Eusebio was born a citizen of Portugal, Puskas wasn't born a citizen of Spain just as Desailly wasn't born a citizen of France.

    I wouldn't say it hampers your chances at all, I'd say you're spitting the dummy out.
