"If you want to be a champions league team consistently, you need to have a champions league mentality and mind set"

    Exactly. Rodgers * gets this.
He knows and he no doubt has told the board. The Scottish league takes care of itself, give us the tools to go on and make the champions league our competition and where we should be challenged/challenging.

I canna mind having a manager who spoke so elegantly, he oozes confidence, and strikes fear into the opposition without being sucked into the media's pishy mind games

BR: "It was a brilliant result for us. For large parts of the game we played really well."

BR: "I was disappointed with the two goals we conceded but in the main it was a very good result."

BR: "In the second half, especially, we were much more aggressive in our play."

BR on @MDembele_10 "He's at a club where he wants to be at. You see the difference when you have a no.9."

BR: "We have played the last few games without no.9s and young Pat has done brilliant."

BR: "He (Moussa) could never start the game but we thought we could give him half an hour and great finishes."

BR on penalty award: "As a manager, I'm delighted I got it, but from Tommy's perspective, he will be bitterly disappointed.

BR: "Our composure in the game is very good now. We stay clam in lots of pressure moments & our build-up play & positioning was good."

BR: "In the second half we upped the tempo in the game, pressed them better, faster more dynamic movements."

BR: "Our fitness - St Johnstone did a great job man-marking some of our players but will eventually wear you down against this team."

BR: "The players have been brilliant, not just 29 games unbeaten, but also 23 out of 24 wins in the league, an incredible number."

A DELIGHTED Brendan Rodgers hailed his players after they rallied superbly against a spirited St Johnstone side at McDiarmid Park to claim their 19th successive league victory.

Despite opening the scoring through Liam Henderson, Celtic trailed at the break after the hosts replied through Keith Watson and an own goal from Dedyrck Boyata.

Moussa Dembele came off the bench in the second half to level the match from the penalty spot with his first touch after Watson had been penalised for a hand-ball.

With 15 minutes left on the clock, the striker swept home from the edge of the box to complete the turnaround, before Scott Sinclair clinically finished off a sweeping counter-attack.

And in the closing stages, Dembele completed a 24-minute treble after tremendous team-goal, with notable contributions from Mikael Lustig and Callum McGregor.

And speaking after the game, the manager highlighted his players’ work-rate, drive and focus after they extended their unbeaten domestic run to a remarkable 29 games and stretched their lead at the top of the table to 27 points.

“It was a brilliant result for us,” said the Irishman. “I thought for large parts of the game that we played really well. I was disappointed with the two goals we conceded. In the main it was a very good result and especially in the second half we were much more aggressive in our play.

“Our composure in the game is very good now and we stay calm in a lot of pressure moments. Our build-up play was good, our positioning was good, though we could have been a little more aggressive in our pressing in the first half.

“In the second half, again, we upped the tempo in the game and pressed them much better and we also had faster, more dynamic movements and then there is our fitness: St Johnstone did a great job man-marking some of our players but eventually that will wear you down against this team as we have them super-fit and strong in the mind.

“When we were behind at half-time, we just said stay calm and look for the moments, though we had to turn the screw a wee bit, and they did that very well.

“I just think it’s taking each game as it comes,” he continued on the subject of the Hoops’ unbeaten run. “We have a responsibility here and we understand and respect the opponents’ desire gets greater as well.

“For us, it’s about us staying on the same level. We are trying to build something for the next few years and it’s not just about this season, and if you are trying to build a Champions-League mentality as a club then it’s a relentless quest to do that.

“The players have been brilliant. It’s not just 29 games unbeaten, you are talking 23 out of 24 wins in the league which is an incredible number of victories which you everything how focused they are, how hard they are working and how driven they are.”

Dembele’s hat-trick heroics took him onto 23 goals for the season and comes a few days after he had been at the centre of frenzied transfer speculation.

But Brendan Rodgers was adamant that the talented 20-year-old had remained focused on returning to fitness and scoring goals for Celtic.

And the Hoops boss believes he can now surpass the 30-goal milestone before the end of the season.

“I think he will do it," he said. "We still have a lot of games and we create chances. That was the objective when I came in – be really attack-minded and be offensive, and if you do that then you will get chances, and if we put them away then he should do.

“He knows that he’s at a club where he wants to be at – it doesn’t affect him. You see the difference when you have a number nine. We have played the last few games without one and young Pat (Patrick Roberts) has done brilliantly up there.

“He (Moussa) could never start the game but we thought we could give him half an hour, come on and help the team and they were great finishes.”

Brendan is blessed with the talent he has in key positions, he is blessed with the funds and facilities created for him and he is blessed that no other team in the SPL has the same strength in depth sitting on their bench.

But there is nothing lucky at all about how Brendan uses all of those advantages to create a Celtic team that has already set new records and may yet set more ones still.
